BCP Family Weekly Updates: Monday, February 12th 2024 (DAY 6)

 Dear Families,

I hope you had a great weekend. Thank-you for your patience regarding the late updates. Thank-you in advance for taking the time to review updates and important reminders! We have a great week of well-being and spirit! Any questions or concerns let me know. If I have missed anything that you would like to be shared please reply to the email correspondance sent seperately. 

                                                                                                                                                                                                        Updates and Important Information

1) Doorways: Doorways will be at the school on Wednesday, February 14th 2024 to support students' mental health and well being. Students may add their name to the list at any time confidentially at the office and/or with Ms. Doyle. 

2) Wellness Day: This Wednesday, February 14th 2024 the school will be hosting a Wellness Day for students and staff to engage in a day to support stress management, self-care, and overall strategies to improve your mental health. 

3) Snowball Dance: This Thursday, February 15th 2024 Student Leadership have organized the school's Snowball Dance! Please see very important BCP Dance Rules as a reminder that the dance is a privilege and not a right. 

4) Winter Carnival: Please note that our Winter Carnival 2024 is this Friday, February 16th 2024

5) Sr. Girls Volleyball: Good luck to our Sr. Girls competing in the under 17 girls volleyball this weekend. Stay tuned for updates in our calendar. 

6) Sr. Boys Basketball: This weekend the Sr. Boys represent BCP at the 2A Regional Qualifier tournament held at Roncalli! Click the link to see the schedule. First game is on Friday, February 16th 2024 at 4pm. 

7) PNP Information Session: My name is Debra Green, Practical Nurse Program (PNP) Secretary at the Center for Nursing Studies (CNS). We are hoping you can share some information about our programs with your students. As our deadline for receiving applications for the PNP 2026 class is fast approaching (March 01, 2024), we would like to inform you that the CNS – PNP is inviting you to attend an in-house recruitment session February 15, 2024 - 7-8pm, at the Center for Nursing Studies located in: Room 104, Southcott Hall Miller Centre 100 Forest Rd. St. John’s. See attached poster with a QR code to register. Additional information regarding the PNP can be found using the following link: https://cns.easternhealth.ca/programs-and-courses/pn/


8) Sr. Lions Club Speak-off: Please be reminded that the Senior Lions Club Speak off will be held Thursday, February 22nd 2024. For more information please connect with your English instructor. 

9) Anti-Bullying Day:  Pink shirt day is February 28, 2024. If you need a new one you can order it here and it will shop directly to the school! Shirts are $9.00 taxes and shipping included. Please see our facebook page for more details.

10) Student Trip to White Hills: Baccalieu Collegiate has booked a student trip to White Hills as a way to promote active living on Thursday, March 14th 2024. Due to restrictions on numbers, we will first be offering the trip to Grade 12's and so forth down the grade levels to meet the reserved 45 available seats. The cost of the trip will be $50. $30 provides students with equipment rental, lessons, and lift pass. $20 provides students with transportation to and from the hill (big bus). Presently, this update is included so that families and friends may discuss prior to our formal offering sometime next week. 11) Study Hall: Do not forget about Study Hall. It is an excellent resource providing your student/child a distraction free and routine space to work on their studies. Study Hall is every Tuesday and Wednesday from 3-4pm.  Support from students and teachers are available. Don't be shy. Come to the Study Hall!

12) Close out for Reporting: Please note that Baccalieu will have a Close out for Report writing on Friday, March 8th 2024

13) Term 2 End: Please note that Term 2 ends March 10th 2024. See calendar for more important dates.

14) Banned Device: Please note that there have been a few students in the school identified to have the following device: Flipper Zero. This and other like devices are banned from school mainly due to the intent of the device including its capabilities to disrupt (prank) individuals and teachers. 

15) Important Allergy Reminder:This is a reminder to our school community that we have people in the school who have scent allergies. Please do not wear strong scents to school as it affects a person's health. Additionally, please do not bring in fish, shellfish, eggs, or nuts. Thank-you. 

16) BCP Athletic Shirts and Apparel: Students/Parents/Guardians can now order Baccalieu Predators Athletics shirts through In the Box NL online store. The clothing options include: dri-fit short sleeve, dri-fit long sleeve, crew neck sweatshirt, and hooded sweatshirt all in grey or navy blue. NOTE: For some sports teams you will be asked to order a shirt with a number to be used as a jersey, this will be at the direct instruction of your coach. Do not order a shirt with a number without consulting directly with your coach. BCP Athletic shirts are a quality low cost option for short term sports teams. Good News Report (In no particular order)
  • RNC: Thank-you to the RNC for visiting our Career Education class to discuss job opportunities in the police force. Thank-you Ms. Leshane for inviting them. 
  • Ministerial Close Out Day: Big thank-you to teachers for all their work and collaboration and despite the weather during our Ministerial Close out. 
  • Mid-Year Reports: Thank-you for your diligence surrounding Semester 1 end and Mid-Year reports.
  • Thank-you Teachers: Huge thank-you to our Baccalieu teachers for giving their 110% and very best intentions for our students everyday! 
  • Thank-you Coaches: Big thanks to our sports coaches for dedicating their time to enhance student well-being and learning through sport!
  • KES: Thank-you Ms. LeShane for organizing our Kids Eat Smart breakfast program and thank-you to all of our community volunteers!
  • Study Hall: Huge thanks to Mr. Holloway for giving up his time to support student learning every Tuesday and Wednesday afterschool! 
  • Drama: Big thanks to our hardworking Drama Troupe preparing for the Drama Festival this year! Way to go and keep up the hard work!
  • Doorways: Thank-you Doorways for being here and meeting with your students. We conversate all the time. Why not with someone who has your best interests in mind and is trained to help?
  • TFT: Thank-you to our tutoring for tuition students!
  • Chess Club: Great work chess club! Thanks Mr. Holloway for leading this for our students. 

  • Music with Ms. Sequeira: Great job students in music! Thank-you students and Ms. Sequeira!
