BCP Family Weekly Updates: Monday, February 19th 2024 (DAY 11)

Dear Families,

I hope you had a great weekend. Hopefully we see a full week of school. Crossing fingers our weather and road conditions will be suitable.                                                                                                                                                                                                      Updates and Important Information

1) Student Trip to White Hills: (This week we will be gaining sign-up from students starting in GRADE 12 down) Students in Grade 12 that would like to sign-up please see Mr. Foley in the gym at the beginning of lunch. You must bring payment ($50) and a signed waiver from the attached package. Mr. Foley will also have printed copies of the waiver if you require one: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fjC_tWJBpnMpnITneOqD__tV8A97yOzI/view?usp=sharing. Baccalieu Collegiate has booked a student trip to White Hills as a way to promote active living on Thursday, March 14th 2024. Due to restrictions on numbers, we will first be offering the trip to Grade 12's and so forth down the grade levels to meet the reserved 45 available seats. The cost of the trip will be $50. $30 provides students with equipment rental, lessons, and lift pass. $20 provides students with transportation to and from the hill (big bus). Presently, this update is included so that families and friends may discuss prior to our formal offering sometime next week. 2) School Coucil Meeting: School Council will have a meeting 6:30pm on Tuesday, February 20th 2024 at the school. 

3) Study Hall: Do not forget about Study Hall. It is an excellent resource providing your student/child a distraction free and routine space to work on their studies. Study Hall is every Tuesday and Wednesday from 3-4pm.  Support from students and teachers are available. Don't be shy. Come to the Study Hall!

4) Student Chromebooks: Please remind students to bring their district issued chromebooks to school each day.  We are very limited on the number of chromebooks that we have as loaners for students if they forget to bring their own.  

5) Snowball Dance: This Thursday, February 22nd 2024 Student Leadership have organized the school's Snowball Dance! Please see very important BCP Dance Rules as a reminder that the dance is a privilege and not a right. 

6) Winter Carnival: Please note that our Winter Carnival 2024 is this Friday, February 23rd 2024. Please see the Tentative WC Schedule here. 

7) Sr. Lions Club Speak-off: Please be reminded that the Senior Lions Club Speak off will be held SOON. Students please keep working on your speeches and touch base with English teachers for support. 

8) Anti-Bullying Day:  Pink shirt day is February 28, 2024. If you need a new one you can order it here and it will shop directly to the school! Shirts are $9.00 taxes and shipping included. Please see our facebook page for more details.

9) Drama Troupe: Please note that the BCP Drama Troupe will be performing for the public at Baccalieu Collegiate on Thursday February 29th 2024! Save the date and stay tuned!

10) Close out for Reporting: Please note that Baccalieu will have a Close out for Report writing on Monday, March 11th 2024

11) Term 2 End: Please note that Term 2 ends March 10th 2024. See calendar for more important dates.

12) Important Allergy Reminder:This is a reminder to our school community that we have people in the school who have scent allergies. Please do not wear strong scents to school as it affects a person's health. Additionally, please do not bring in fish, shellfish, eggs, or nuts. Thank-you. 

13) BCP Athletic Shirts and Apparel: Students/Parents/Guardians can now order Baccalieu Predators Athletics shirts through In the Box NL online store. The clothing options include: dri-fit short sleeve, dri-fit long sleeve, crew neck sweatshirt, and hooded sweatshirt all in grey or navy blue. NOTE: For some sports teams you will be asked to order a shirt with a number to be used as a jersey, this will be at the direct instruction of your coach. Do not order a shirt with a number without consulting directly with you coach. BCP Athletic shirts are a quality low cost option for short term sports teams. Good News Report (In no particular order)

• Staff Meeting: Big thanks to our teachers and staff for working hard and collaboratively.
  
• International Students: Thank-you Ms. Bolt for supporting our new international students English language acquisition. As well thank you to all our students and staff for being so welcoming and kind to support our international students!
• Sr. Girls Volleyball: Congrats on excellent weekend girls!
  
• Sr. Boys Basketball: Congrats to our Sr. Boys team for a great showing at 2A Regionals. The boys did not qualify for provincials. 
  
• Thank-you Coaches: Big thanks to our sports coaches for dedicating their time to enhance student well-being and learning through sport!
• KES: Thank-you Ms. LeShane for organizing our Kids Eat Smart breakfast program and thank-you to all of our community volunteers!
• Study Hall: Huge thanks to Mr. Holloway for giving up his time to support student learning every Tuesday and Wednesday afterschool! 
• Drama: Big thanks to our hardworking Drama Troupe preparing for the Drama Festival this year! Way to go and keep up the hard work!
• Doorways: Thank-you Doorways for being here and meeting with your students. We conversate all the time. Why not with someone who has your best interests in mind and is trained to help?
• TFT: Thank-you to our tutoring for tuition students!

• Chess Club: Great work chess club! Thanks Mr. Holloway for leading this for our students. 

• Music with Ms. Sequeira: Great job students in music! Thank-you students and Ms. Sequeira!
