BCP Family Weekly Updates: Monday, November 18th 2024 (DAY 10)

Dear Families,

BCP Weekly Updates Submission Form: A focus at Baccalieu Collegiate in the 2024 school year is to build a strong and connected community. A pillar to building this is effective communication. Volunteer coaches, members of town council, families etc.  are invited to share information, events, and/or good news with our BCP community via BCP Weekly Updates Submission Form. Please complete the form to have your news pertinent to students and families shared on our BCP weekly updates email. 

                                      Updates and Important Information

1) Harm Reduction Sessions: Baccalieu Collegiate students will have a one hour presentation from Jane Henderson with their respective homeroom on Monday, November 18th 2024. Jane Henderson is the Provincial Consultant for Harm Reduction with NL Health Services. Please see MEMO: Baccalieu Collegiate Harm Reduction Sessions  for further context. 

3) Drama Practice: There will be drama practice 4-5 on Monday and Thursday this week. Monday's practice will follow choir practice.

3) School Council: BCP School Council Meeting is Monday, November 18th 2024 at 4pm. 

4) After School Tutoring: Mr. Holloway's after school tutoring will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays after school from 3:00 to 4:00pm. 

5) Graduation Photos: Lifetouch will be at Baccalieu next week Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22 2024 to take Grade 12 Graduation photos. All students should take their photos so that they are in the Baccalieu Collegiate composite. Students are not required to pay the sitting fee unless they purchase the proofs. 

6) Indoor Soccer: There will be a boy's indoor soccer practice on Thursday from 3-4pm. This is the last practice before the regional qualifier tournament. Please make every effort to attend!

7) Shawna Squires-Alter: Shawna Squires band ALTER will be playing at Second Stage. This is an all ages venue. November 23rd. admission is $15 or P.W.Y.C. doors open at 4pm bands start at 5pm. Bands include ALTER, Kicker, Mantra, Bog Rot, Little Fauna, and Sheavy! Drop by and enjoy a great show.

8) Baccalieu Collegiate Cash Lottery: Cash Lottery ticket sales continue for the lucky ticket holders an opportunity to win $5000, $500, and/or $50! The BCP Cash Lottery is a school fundraising for flexible seating in our classrooms, stage lights, and to support our extracurricular activities. Cash Lottery Poster.

11) Junior High Math Competition: Wednesday, November 27th 2024 is BCP Annual Junior High Math Competition. Get ready to crunch some numbers! 

12) BCP PL Close Out & Reporting Day: Baccalieu Collegiate will be shutdown for teachers learning and reporting Friday, November 29th 2024.

13) Term 1 End: Just a reminder that Term 1 end is near! The last day of school before Term 1 ends for students is Thursday, November 28th 2024. Finish the term strong!

14) BCP Family - Teacher Conferences: Baccalieu Collegiate Family-Teacher Conference will be Thursday, December 5th 2024 from 1pm to 5pm.  

16) Scott Legge and the Lighthouse: FYI Scott Legge will be attending our school on Thursday, December 5th and Friday, December 6th 2024 to continue training our students in the Lighthouse project. We will have a full crew attend and cover the Christmas Concert held in North River which raises money for the Janeway. We will also have representation to support coverage at Trinity Hall which includes working with the NTV News Crew! Any students interested in joining the Lighthouse crew should reach out to Mr. Atakorah. It's an amazing opportunity to learn new skills and gain confidence promoting the amazing things happening at our school and in our communities. 

17) Sports: Believe it or not, there's more sports and activities happening at Baccalieu! Please see the Baccalieu Events Calendar for up-to-date practice times and tournaments.

19) Reminder -- Absence Form (Family): Child Absent? Complete the form BCP ABSENT FORM without having to call or email the respective homeroom teacher. You can do that too. 

20) Assessment Support Calendar: Please do your best to add assessments to our Assessment Support Calendar. This calendar is shared on our www.baccalieucollegiate.ca site for both students and families to see and support their organization. Additionally, give our IRT team a heads up at your earliest convenience so that they can mobilize effectively to support. 

21) School Allergies: Please be aware that the following foods are prohibited at school due to severe allergies including nuts, fish, shellfish, egg, and pumpkin. 

22) BCP Athletic Shirts and Apparel: Students/Parents/Guardians can now order Baccalieu Predators Athletics shirts through In the Box NL online store. The clothing options include: dri-fit short sleeve, dri-fit long sleeve, crew neck sweatshirt, and hooded sweatshirt all in grey or navy blue. NOTE: For some sports teams you will be asked to order a shirt with a number to be used as a jersey, this will be at the direct instruction of your coach. Do not order a shirt with a number without consulting directly with your coach. BCP Athletic shirts are a quality low cost option for short term sports teams. • Boy's Indoor Soccer: Good luck this weekend Baccalieu In-door boys!
  
• Staff Meeting: Thank-you teachers for taking time out of your busy schedules to meet and grind out the details to support our students and school. 
  
• Professional Learning Cohort: Big thank-you to teachers for taking advantage of the opportunity to improve your instruction by joining the professional learning cohort. Great job!
  
• Avalon Senior High Math League: Thank-you to all the students who joined the BCP Math League Team!!! Thank-you Mr. Holloway and Ms. Slade to provide the opportunity!
  
• Drama practice for Christmas Concert: Thank-you teachers and students for working overtime so we have put on a fantastic Christmas concert!
  
• Baccalieu Badminton Club: Thank-you Ms. Oliver for giving opportunity to students to play competitive or non-competitive badminton at Baccalieu. 
  
•  Cash Lottery Early Bird Draw: Congrats to Hannah Burt for winning the BCP Early Bird draw --  $25.00 Jungle Jim's Gift Certificate!
•  Girl's Basketball: Keep on working girls basketball! 
  
• Tutoring for Tuition: Tutors are on the go! Thank you student tutors for helping our students who want support!
  
• Junior Boys Basketball: Junior Boys are practicing twice a week! Thank-you Coach Barnes, Clarke, and Froggatt for giving back your time to support our youth!
• Doorways: Thank-you Doorways for attending Baccalieu Collegiate
• Baccalieu Collegiate Choir: Huge thanks Ms. Sequeira for getting the choir back at Baccalieu.
