NLSchools Message: Everyone Deserves Respect

1) Design and Fabrication Class: A reminder to all students enrolled in Design and Fab to please read and have your parent(s)/guardian(s) sign the safety pledge form. Please return these forms to Ms. Petten this week!

2) After School Tutoring: Mr. Holloway's after school tutoring will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays after school from 3:00 to 4:00pm. 

3) Boy's Indoor Soccer: There will be a short meeting on Tuesday at recess time for anyone on the boy's indoor soccer team. *Practice Change*: Practice this week will go ahead on TUESDAY from 3-4pm. 

4) Professional Learning Cohort: NLSchools Program Specialists will be at Baccalieu working with teachers who joined the inquiry cohort on Wednesday, November 13th 2024. 

5) Drama practice for Christmas Concert: There will be practice for the Christmas concert this Wednesday and Thursday after school from 3-4. Please make every effort to be there.

6) Baccalieu Badminton Club: The Baccalieu Badminton Club for Sr High players will go ahead after school on Wednesdays until 4:30 at Baccalieu Collegiate starting on November 13th. The Jr High players will play on Thursdays until 4:00 at Baccalieu Collegiate. This will start up when the indoor soccer practices are completed for the year. Estimated start up date is November 28th.

7) Cash Lottery Early Bird Draw: Students, bring back your sold tickets by Thursday, November 14th 2024. Every booklet sold (25 tickets) and your name goes into a draw for a $25.00 Jungle Jim's Gift Certificate!

8) Girl's Basketball: Girl's basketball practice this week will go ahead on Thursday after school from 3-4pm.

9) Graduation Photos: Lifetouch will be at Baccalieu next week Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22 2024 to take Grade 12 Graduation photos. All students should take their photos so that they are in the Baccalieu Collegiate composite. Students are not required to pay the sitting fee unless they purchase the proofs. 

10) Term 1 End: Just a reminder that Term 1 end is near! The last day to submit any re-scheduled work is Thursday, November 28th 2024. Good luck! 

11) Shawna Squires-Alter: Shawna Squires band ALTER will be playing at Second Stage. This is an all ages venue. November 23rd. admission is $15 or P.W.Y.C. doors open at 4pm bands start at 5pm. Bands include ALTER, Kicker, Mantra, Bog Rot, Little Fauna, and Sheavy! Drop by and enjoy a great show.

12) Cash Lottery Kickoff: Baccalieu Collegiate Cash Lottery kicked off last week Tuesday, November 5th 2024 . There will be many great prizes and cash incentives for students. All the same great stocking stuffer gifts for opportunity to win $5000, $500, and/or $50! The BCP Cash Lottery is a school fundraising for flexible seating in our classrooms, stage lights, and to support our extracurricular activities. Cash Lottery Poster. 

13) Sports: Believe it or not, there's more sports and activities happening at Baccalieu! Please see the Baccalieu Events Calendar for up-to-date practice times and tournaments.

14) Reminder -- Absence Form (Family): Child Absent? Complete the form BCP ABSENT FORM without having to call or email the respective homeroom teacher. You can do that too. 

15) Assessment Support Calendar: Please do your best to add assessments to our Assessment Support Calendar. This calendar is shared on our www.baccalieucollegiate.ca site for both students and families to see and support their organization. Additionally, give our IRT team a heads up at your earliest convenience so that they can mobilize effectively to support. 

16) School Allergies: Please be aware that the following foods are prohibited at school due to severe allergies including nuts, fish, shellfish, egg, and pumpkin. 

17) BCP Athletic Shirts and Apparel: Students/Parents/Guardians can now order Baccalieu Predators Athletics shirts through In the Box NL online store. The clothing options include: dri-fit short sleeve, dri-fit long sleeve, crew neck sweatshirt, and hooded sweatshirt all in grey or navy blue. NOTE: For some sports teams you will be asked to order a shirt with a number to be used as a jersey, this will be at the direct instruction of your coach. Do not order a shirt with a number without consulting directly with your coach. BCP Athletic shirts are a quality low cost option for short term sports teams. Good News Report (In no particular order)

• Senior Girls Varsity Volleyball: Big congratulations to the Senior Girls Varsity Volleyball team on winning the Division B tier one Championship this past weekend at the 8th Annual Pink invitational tournament held in memory of Makayla Puddicombe. Also congratulations to Anna Kate Sutton on being chosen as MVP of our team. These girls showed great sportsmanship for Baccalieu Collegiate by cheering for all teams this weekend. Awesome job. 
• Jamarama Donation: Thank-you students and families for supporting Jamarama in support of Janeway. Congrats to Grade 9 and Grade 10B Homerooms for raising the most money! The school raised $131.00 total for the Janeway. 
• Avalon Senior High Math League: Thank-you to all the students who joined the BCP Math League Team!!! Thank-you Mr. Holloway and Ms. Slade to provide the opportunity!
  
• Senior Boys Basketball: Congrats to Boys basketball who had an excellent weekend in Bonavista placing 3rd out of 6 teams. Back to the lab boys!
• Remembrance Day Assembly: Thank-you students, staff, and the public for joining us to honour Remembrance Day. Thank-you to the amazing work of staff and students and Cadets for creating such an excellent event. 
  
• Drama & Music: Thank-you staff and students who prepared and performed in the Remembrance Day Assembly. Amazing job!
  
• Indoor Soccer Practices:  Keep up the great work boys soccer!
  
• Comprehensive School Health Team: Thank-you Ms. Rex and the Baccalieu CSH team for working diligently to create a healthy school. Thank-you Leadership students for meeting with Ms. Rex and speaking openly!
  
• Tutoring for Tuition: Tutors are on the go! Thank you student tutors for helping our students who want support!
  
• Junior Boys Basketball: Junior Boys are practicing twice a week! Thank-you Coach Barnes, Clarke, and Froggatt for giving back your time to support our youth!

1) Junior Boys Basketball: Junior Boys basketball practice will be going ahead today Monday, November 4th 2024. Junior Boys will have a second practice this week on Thursday, November 7th 2024 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. 

2) Cash Lottery Kickoff: Baccalieu Collegiate Cash Lottery will be kicking off Tuesday, November 5th 2024 . There will be many great prizes and cash incentives for students. All the same great stocking stuffer gifts for opportunity to win $5000, $500, and/or $50! 3) The Buzz, CDLI Updates: CDLI is excited to introduce The Buzz, CDLI’s newsletter, designed to keep you informed about all the latest happenings, updates, and resources at the Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation. Whether you're a parent, student, or educator, The Buzz will bring you closer to what’s going on at CDLI and highlight important dates, events, and stories from across our learning community. Check out our first edition here: The Buzz - November 2024.

4) Lifetouch Pictures: Dear parents, School pictures are ready! To order, log in to your account on mylifetouch.ca or create an account using your student's student ID number. Paper proofs will also be sent to your home in the near future. All families can also log on and order a FREE digital Pictures2Protect Card. More about the Pictures2Protect program here.

5) Tutoring for Tuition: We are now providing tutoring services for students through the tutoring for tuition program. If a teacher or parent would like to refer students for tutoring. please contact Ms. Slade or Ms. Reid. 

6) Student Leadership Committee: Members of the Student Leadership Committee will have a brief meeting Tuesday, November 5th 2024 at 2pm. The meeting will be with Ms. Rex who is leader of Comprehensive School Health Project. 

7) Girls Basketball: Girls basketball practice will be canceled this Tuesday, November 5th 2024

8) Indoor Soccer Practices:  Soccer practices this week are needing to be changed due to scheduling in the gym. Please see information below: Girls Soccer will go ahead this TUESDAY from 3-4:30pm. Boys Soccer will go ahead this WEDNESDAY from 3-4:30pm. These practices are mandatory for any player wishing to participate in the upcoming regional qualifier tournaments. 

9) Drama Practice and Auditions: There will be a final practice for Remembrance Day assembly on Thursday from 2:45-4pm. We will also hold auditions for the Christmas plays after the practice. If those of you who are not in the remembrance day assembly but would like to audition for the christmas plays, then come to see Ms. Reid, Mr. O'Keefe or Ms. Howell to set up a lunch time audition. Students can pick up copies of scripts to audition at the office.

10) After School Tutoring: Mr. Holloway's after school tutoring will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays after school from 3:00 to 4:00pm. 

11) Remembrance Day Assembly: Baccalieu Collegiate will honour Remembrance Day with an assembly. The assembly is open to the public and for students on Friday, November 8th 2024 beginning at 11:00am. The public are encouraged to attend!

12) Avalon Senior High Math League: This event is happening at 3:30 on Thursday, Dec. 4. Students from schools across the region work in teams of four to solve a series of math problems in a competition for first place. If you are interested in participating please contact Mr. Holloway or Ms. Slade! (PS there are usually prizes and free food).

14) Sports: Believe it or not, there's more sports and activities happening at Baccalieu! Please see the Baccalieu Events Calendar for up-to-date practice times and tournaments.

Good News Report (In no particular order)

• Memorial University: Thank-you to Memorial University for visiting our school to present information to our Grades 10-12 students! 
• Grade 9 volleyball girls team: This past Saturday the grade 9 girls volleyball team played in a tournament at amagulmated Bay Roberts, the girls played hard but came up short, in a competitive playoff game. 
  
• Grade 8 volleyball: Girls had a great weekend at volleyfest , they had some very intense nail biting games. No medals but had a lot of fun and made lots of memories.  
  
• Baccalieu Collegiate Halloween spirit week: Thank-you BCP Leadership and students for organizing a very spirited week of Halloween!!
  
• Field Trip: Thank-you students and staff for making a great field trip to St. John's last week. Teachers reported an excellent representation of the school and very engaged students! 
  
• Picture Day: Thank-you everyone for making a successful picture day!
  
• Occupational Health and Safety Orientation: Thank-you teachers for completing the required training. 
  
• Randy DeGruchy visit: Big thanks to Mr. DeGrunchy for visiting our school and helping out students!

                                                           Updates and Important Information

1) Baccalieu Collegiate Halloween spirit week: The Baccalieu Collegiate Spirit Week is coming up and with that, fun activities for the week of Halloween. The events are as follows: Monday, wear Halloween clothing, Tuesday, wear Halloween socks, Wednesday, wear flannel designed attire, Thursday, wear your Halloween costume, Friday, wear pjs to school. Participating in these events will earn you and your class Baccalieu Bucks which you can then spend on certain things later on in the year.

2) Field Trip: Wishing our Grade 9 and Entrepreneurship students all the best and learning on field trip to the Geo Centre and Memorial University, St. John's today Monday, October 28th 2024. Thank-you teachers and volunteers for supporting this adventure. 

3) Picture Day: Baccalieu Collegiate picture day! is Tuesday October 29th 2024.  

4) Senior Boys Basketball: Senior boys basketball will have regular practice times this week. Tuesday at 6:30pm we ask all parents/guardians to attend a kick-off meeting for the team. Thank-you in advance. 

5) After School Tutoring: Mr. Holloway's after school tutoring will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays after school from 3:00 to 4:00pm. 

6) Junior Boys Basketball: Junior Boys basketball practice is from 3:00pm to 4:30pm followed by a parent meeting is today Monday, October 28th 2024 starting at 4:30pm.

7) Indoor Soccer: Girl’s soccer practice on Wednesday will be cancelled. Girl’s indoor soccer and Boy’s indoor soccer practice will be combined on Thursday this week for a scrimmage. It will be from 3-4 pm. Please arrange for pick up at 4pm.

8) Drama Practice: There is drama practice from 2:45-3:45 on Wednesday. This is the only time we could get the gym this week so we will have practice then. 

9) Cash Lottery Kickoff: We are anticipating the launch of our Baccalieu Collegiate Cash Lottery this Friday, November 1st 2024. We are fundraising for more flexible seating in our classrooms, stage lights, and to support our extracurricular activities. 

10) Close Out: On November 4th 2024 our Family of Schools is shutting down for a professional learning and training day.  NO school for students.

• Senior Girls Volleyball: Congrats to the Baccalieu Collegiate Senior Girls Varsity Volleyball team on winning Gold and bringing home a banner in Division B Tier one at volleyfest this weekend. Hard work and determination certainly paid off with a huge win. 3,2,1 BCP.
  
• Grade 9 Girls Volleyball: the junior girls grade 9 volleyball team played great this weekend. They showed good sportsmanship and had lots off fun. They placed 3rd in there first round and played a hard playoff round they lost to the team that went on to win the gold!
  
• Grade 8 Girls Volleyball: Congrats Grade 8 girls volleyball for a strong showing at Volleyfest. 
• Cross country: Congrats Athletes for a strong showing at Harvest Run. 
  
• Halloween Dance: Thank-you Leadership for putting off a great Oct. Dance for students!
• Indoor Soccer: Good luck boys and girls in-door soccer squads!

6)  Junior Boys Basketball: Today's parent/guardian meeting for Junior Boys Basketball will be postponed. The meeting will be pushed to the next practice on Monday, October 28th 2024 starting at 4:30pm.

7) Indoor Soccer: Girl's Indoor Soccer: There will be a meeting at recess time tomorrow (Monday Oct. 21st) in the gym for any girl interested in playing indoor soccer. Boy's Indoor Soccer- There will be a practice on Thursday from 3-4pm. 

8) Cross country: Cross country will take place on Monday from 2:55 to 3:25. Please be reminded that the Harvest run takes place this Wednesday.

9) Halloween Dance: Halloween dance on Thursday, October 24 from 7-9pm . Please ensure students are aware of the BCP Dance Conduct

10) Senior girls volleyball Volley fest: On Oct 25 and 26, the senior girls varsity volleyball team will be competing at Volleyfest in St. John’s. Keep an eye on the Senior girls Varsity Volleyball Facebook page to watch and update on the times the girls are playing. Good Luck

11) Softball Update: Due to the low numbers and temperature we will cancel any further softball practices and resume in the Spring.

12) Grade 9 volleyball team: This weekend the grade 9 volleyball team are heading to volley fest friday and saturday 

13) Field Trip: We're happy to announce that our Educational Field Trip to the Geo Centre and MUN Centre for Entrepreneurship is back! This trip will be for Grade 9 and Entrepreneurship students respectively. Families please stay tuned for more information. The trip is scheduled for Monday, October 28th 2024. This trip is made possible by the donation from Greenseafood Ltd.! Thank-you!

16) Did you Know, BCP has a Calming Room: Are you a student losing their cool? Are you feeling overwhelmed? Need to hit the reset button?  Use this time to pause, reflect, and self-regulate. Focus on calming your mind and gaining clarity so you can return to class feeling positive, prepared, and ready to actively engage in learning with your peers. 1) No electronic devices are permitted. They should be placed in your bookbag in the office. 2) Sign-in with someone in the office. 3) Respect the contents/furniture of the room. No vandalism will be tolerated.

I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful Thanks-giving weekend. There is much to be thankful for. I hope everyone has an opportunity to unwind and reflect and focus on the gratitudes in your life. BCP Weekly Updates Submission Form: A focus at Baccalieu Collegiate in the 2024 school year is to build a strong and connected community. A pillar to building this is effective communication. Volunteer coaches, members of town council, families etc.  are invited to share information, events, and/or good news with our BCP community via BCP Weekly Updates Submission Form. Please complete the form to have your news pertinent to students and families shared on our BCP weekly updates email.

3) After School Tutoring: Mr. Holloway's after school tutoring will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays after school from 3:00 to 4:00pm. 

4) Student Leadership Committee: Congratulations to students who are part of the leadership committee. There will be a very brief meeting to finalize committee roles and begin Halloween spirit planning during recess Tuesday, October 15th 2024 in Room 150. Please ensure all committee members are present. 

5) Cross Country: Cross Country practice this upcoming week will be Tuesday Oct 15 and Thursday Oct 17. Practice will run from 2:55 - 3:25. The Annual Harvest Run will take place on Wednesday, Oct 23.

6) Girls Basketball: BCP Girls 1st basketball practice will take place after school Tuesday, October 15th 2024 from 3:00pm to 4:30pm.  

7) Senior Boys Basketball: Senior Boys Basketball practices will continue this week Tuesday (7:00pm to 9:00pm) and Thursday (4:00pm to 5:30pm). 

8) Doorways: Please note that Doorways operates at Baccalieu Collegiate. For more information and/or arrange an appointment time please contact Ms. Doyle. 

9) Indoor Soccer: 1) Girls indoor soccer practice will be going ahead on Wednesday from 3-4pm. 2) Boys indoor soccer practice will be going ahead on Thursday from 3-4pm. 

10) BCP Lighthouse Project Meeting: Lighthouse members should attend the CBC Broadcasting training October 17th 2024 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm. Please try and arrange a ride to and from the Old Perlican Library. Please speak to Mr. Atakorah to let him know you will be attending and for more information. 

11) Softball Practices: Softball Practices will go ahead Mondays and Fridays weather permitting from 3:00-4:30 at the Old Perlican Field. This will start on Friday the 18th of October. All players interested in playing on the co-ed team this year as well as the boys team next year are asked to attend when available.

12) Sports: Believe it or not, there's more sports and activities happening at Baccalieu! Please see the Baccalieu Events Calendar for up-to-date practice times and tournaments.

13) Did you Know, BCP has a Calming Room: Are you a student losing their cool? Are you feeling overwhelmed? Need to hit the reset button?  Use this time to pause, reflect, and self-regulate. Focus on calming your mind and gaining clarity so you can return to class feeling positive, prepared, and ready to actively engage in learning with your peers. 1) No electronic devices are permitted. They should be placed in your bookbag in the office. 2) Sign-in with someone in the office. 3) Respect the contents/furniture of the room. No vandalism will be tolerated.

14) Reminder -- Volleyball: Grade 8 Girls Volleyball would like to welcome our grade 7 girls to come along to our grade 8 volleyball practices. Practices are Mondays from 4:30-6:00pm! The trip is scheduled for Monday, October 28th 2024. This trip is made possible by the donation from Greenseafood Ltd.! Thank-you! Please note, we are also currently working on programming for Entrepreneurship students. Once confirmed we will send more information out. 

17) Picture Day: Please be advised that Baccalieu Collegiate picture day is Tuesday October 29th 2024. 

18) Reminder -- Absence Form (Family): Child Absent? Complete the form BCP ABSENT FORM without having to call or email the respective homeroom teacher. You can do that too.

5) M Team Member: Welcome Ms. Sequeira to the M-Team. Ms. Sequeira is leading teacher for CDLI courses. Please see Ms. Sequeira for any/all CDLI needs. 

6) Senior Boys Basketball: Senior Boys Basketball Training/Tryout will continue this week Tuesday (7:00pm to 9:00pm) and Thursday (4:00pm to 5:30pm). The team is expected to be named this week.

11) BCP Lighthouse Project Meeting: Thank-you students who joined the LH project. Mr. Atakorah will continue to connect, develop space, and provide training. Please mark on your calendar CBC Broadcasting training October 17th 2024 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm. Please try and arrange a ride to and from the Old Perlican Library. Also, any members interested in covering the Scilly Cove Records Showcase at Trinity Hall on Friday October 11th 2024 please see Mr. Saxby. 

12) BCP Close out Day: Please note that Baccalieu Collegiate has tentatively scheduled Closeout PL Day on Friday, October 11th 2024. 

13) Thanksgiving Holiday: Please note BCP will observe the Thanksgiving holiday on Monday, October 14th 2024.

• Regional Cross Country Running: Congratulations to all Cross Country runners who took part in today’s regional run! Jr. Boys and Sr. Girls had an excellent performance. Congratulations to Jackson March on winning first place in Sr. Boys and Lucas Whalen on winning 3rd place Sr. High Boys. A huge congratulations to our Sr. Boys team on winning first place and bringing home the Regional banner! Great performance by all!
