BCP Family Weekly Updates: Tuesday, November 12th 2024 (DAY 6)

Dear Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. Thank-you in advance for taking the time to review updates and important reminders! Any questions or concerns let me know. If I have missed anything please reply-all to this email. 

BCP Weekly Updates Submission Form: A focus at Baccalieu Collegiate in the 2024 school year is to build a strong and connected community. A pillar to building this is effective communication. Volunteer coaches, members of town council, families etc.  are invited to share information, events, and/or good news with our BCP community via BCP Weekly Updates Submission Form. Please complete the form to have your news pertinent to students and families shared on our BCP weekly updates email. 

                                   Updates and Important Information


1) Design and Fabrication ClassA reminder to all students enrolled in Design and Fab to please read and have your parent(s)/guardian(s) sign the safety pledge form. Please return these forms to Ms. Petten this week!

2) After School Tutoring: Mr. Holloway's after school tutoring will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays after school from 3:00 to 4:00pm. 

3) Boy's Indoor Soccer: There will be a short meeting on Tuesday at recess time for anyone on the boy's indoor soccer team. *Practice Change*: Practice this week will go ahead on TUESDAY from 3-4pm

4) Professional Learning Cohort: NLSchools Program Specialists will be at Baccalieu working with teachers who joined the inquiry cohort on Wednesday, November 13th 2024

5) Drama practice for Christmas ConcertThere will be practice for the Christmas concert this Wednesday and Thursday after school from 3-4. Please make every effort to be there.

6) Baccalieu Badminton ClubThe Baccalieu Badminton Club for Sr High players will go ahead after school on Wednesdays until 4:30 at Baccalieu Collegiate starting on November 13thThe Jr High players will play on Thursdays until 4:00 at Baccalieu Collegiate. This will start up when the indoor soccer practices are completed for the year. Estimated start up date is November 28th.

7) Cash Lottery Early Bird Draw: Students, bring back your sold tickets by Thursday, November 14th 2024. Every booklet sold (25 tickets) and your name goes into a draw for a $25.00 Jungle Jim's Gift Certificate!

8) Girl's Basketball: Girl's basketball practice this week will go ahead on Thursday after school from 3-4pm.

9) Graduation Photos: Lifetouch will be at Baccalieu next week Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22 2024 to take Grade 12 Graduation photos. All students should take their photos so that they are in the Baccalieu Collegiate composite. Students are not required to pay the sitting fee unless they purchase the proofs. 

10) Term 1 End: Just a reminder that Term 1 end is near! The last day to submit any re-scheduled work is Thursday, November 28th 2024. Good luck! 

11) Shawna Squires-Alter: Shawna Squires band ALTER will be playing at Second Stage. This is an all ages venue. November 23rd. admission is $15 or P.W.Y.C. doors open at 4pm bands start at 5pm. Bands include ALTER, Kicker, Mantra, Bog Rot, Little Fauna, and Sheavy! Drop by and enjoy a great show.

12) Cash Lottery Kickoff: Baccalieu Collegiate Cash Lottery kicked off last week Tuesday, November 5th 2024 . There will be many great prizes and cash incentives for students. All the same great stocking stuffer gifts for opportunity to win $5000, $500, and/or $50! The BCP Cash Lottery is a school fundraising for flexible seating in our classrooms, stage lights, and to support our extracurricular activities. Cash Lottery Poster

13) Sports: Believe it or not, there's more sports and activities happening at Baccalieu! Please see the Baccalieu Events Calendar for up-to-date practice times and tournaments.

14) Reminder -- Absence Form (Family): Child Absent? Complete the form BCP ABSENT FORM without having to call or email the respective homeroom teacher. You can do that too. 

15) Assessment Support Calendar: Please do your best to add assessments to our Assessment Support Calendar. This calendar is shared on our www.baccalieucollegiate.ca site for both students and families to see and support their organization. Additionally, give our IRT team a heads up at your earliest convenience so that they can mobilize effectively to support. 


16) School Allergies: Please be aware that the following foods are prohibited at school due to severe allergies including nuts, fish, shellfish, egg, and pumpkin. 

17) BCP Athletic Shirts and Apparel: Students/Parents/Guardians can now order Baccalieu Predators Athletics shirts through In the Box NL online store. The clothing options include: dri-fit short sleeve, dri-fit long sleeve, crew neck sweatshirt, and hooded sweatshirt all in grey or navy blue. NOTE: For some sports teams you will be asked to order a shirt with a number to be used as a jersey, this will be at the direct instruction of your coach. Do not order a shirt with a number without consulting directly with your coach. BCP Athletic shirts are a quality low cost option for short term sports teams. Good News Report (In no particular order)
  • Senior Girls Varsity Volleyball: Big congratulations to the Senior Girls Varsity Volleyball team on winning the Division B tier one Championship this past weekend at the 8th Annual Pink invitational tournament held in memory of Makayla Puddicombe. Also congratulations to Anna Kate Sutton on being chosen as MVP of our team. These girls showed great sportsmanship for Baccalieu Collegiate by cheering for all teams this weekend. Awesome job. 
  • Jamarama Donation: Thank-you students and families for supporting Jamarama in support of Janeway. Congrats to Grade 9 and Grade 10B Homerooms for raising the most money! The school raised $131.00 total for the Janeway. 
  • Avalon Senior High Math League: Thank-you to all the students who joined the BCP Math League Team!!! Thank-you Mr. Holloway and Ms. Slade to provide the opportunity!
  • Senior Boys Basketball: Congrats to Boys basketball who had an excellent weekend in Bonavista placing 3rd out of 6 teams. Back to the lab boys!
  • Remembrance Day Assembly: Thank-you students, staff, and the public for joining us to honour Remembrance Day. Thank-you to the amazing work of staff and students and Cadets for creating such an excellent event. 
  • Drama & Music: Thank-you staff and students who prepared and performed in the Remembrance Day Assembly. Amazing job!
  • Indoor Soccer PracticesKeep up the great work boys soccer!
  • Comprehensive School Health Team: Thank-you Ms. Rex and the Baccalieu CSH team for working diligently to create a healthy school. Thank-you Leadership students for meeting with Ms. Rex and speaking openly!
  • Tutoring for TuitionTutors are on the go! Thank you student tutors for helping our students who want support!
  • Junior Boys Basketball: Junior Boys are practicing twice a week! Thank-you Coach Barnes, Clarke, and Froggatt for giving back your time to support our youth!
  • Doorways: Thank-you Doorways for attending Baccalieu Collegiate
  • Baccalieu Collegiate ChoirHuge thanks Ms. Sequeira for getting the choir back at Baccalieu.
