BCP Family Weekly Updates: Tuesday, October 11th 2022 (DAY 10)

 Dear Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday! Thank-you in advance for taking the time to review updates and important reminders! Any questions or concerns let me know. If I have missed anything please reply-all to this email. 

                                            Updates and Important Information

1) Autism Awareness Month: This month is Autsim Awareness Month. Teachers and students will be taking part in various learnings and activities this month.

2) School Council: Our first School Council meeting is this evening Tuesday, October 11th 2022 starting at 6:30pm. Volunteers for the council should recieve an email this morning confirming their place in the first meeting this evening.

3) Doorways: Doorways are back at Baccalieu to support students with mental health counselling. Doorways will begin bi-weekly starting Wednesday, October 12th 2022. Please see the following for more information --  Doorways Information and Doorways FAQ

4) CDLI Updates: CDLI virtual Meet and Greet will be taking place starting at 7:00pm on Thursday, October 13th 2022. Also, there will be no synchronous classes for CDLI students on October 18th, October 19th and October 20th due to teacher professional learning. In advance of these dates, teachers will be communicating with students about any asynchronous learning that students may be engaging in. Classes will resume on Oct 21st.

5) Harvest Run: Please note the Annual Harvest Run will be taking place for cross country athletes next week October 18th 2022.

6) Comprehensive School Health Team: Have a look at our community's input on our CSH School Project through this CSH Infographic. This is year two of our CSH Project where we will have access to $8000.00 in grant money to develop our school. 

7) NL LD Association Tutoring: Just in case you didn't know, the NL LD Association offers online tutoring in reading and in math.  The service is subsidized and depending on need can be free.  Please see the link if you have students who would benefit.  You can share with parents or refer. https://www.ldanl.ca/rural-nl-tutoring-support/

8) After School Academic Support: Mr. Holloway will be staying after school to offer extra help for any students on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00pm to 4:00pm.  

9) Assessment Support Calendar: Please do your best to add assessments to our Assessment Support Calendar. This calendar is shared on our www.baccalieucollegiate.ca site for both students and families to see and support their organization. Additionally, give our IRT team a heads up at your earliest convenience so that they can mobilize effectively to support. 

10) Awards Night and Cap and Gown: The date of Monday, December 19th 2022 has been set for our 2021-22 Cap and Gown and Awards Night!

Good News Report (In no particular order)

• Terry Fox Run: Huge thanks to our Student Leadership and supporting teachers for organizing an excellent morning Terry Fox run. In addition to recognizing and participating in such an important cause, we also raised $290.00!! Thank-you to everyone who donated!
  
• OHS Meeting: Big thanks to our OHS team for meeting last week afterschool. Excellent meeting!
• Comprehensive School Health Team: Big thanks to Jennifer Rex for visiting our Student Leadership group last week!
• Sports Practices: So many sports and other events going on afterschool. Please check out Baccalieu Calendar for a listing of events and times! Thank-you to all of our students for getting involved and teachers and volunteers for giving up your time for our youth! 
• Senior Girls Volleyball: Big congrats to the girls trying out for our Sr. Girls Volleyball team. Big thanks to our volunteer coaches. Go BCP Go!
• Junior Girls Volleyball: Great work Jr. Girls Volleyball! Thank-you to our volunteer coaches! Go BCP Go!
• Boys basketball: Thanks Coach Cashin for getting the senior boys basketball team up and going! The banner year begins! Also, huge thanks for getting our Jr. Boys ballin!
• Boys Volleyball: Big thanks to Coach Sheppard for training our boys volleyball!!
• Girls Basketball: Huge thanks to Coach Adams for revitalizing our girls basketball program here at Baccalieu!
• Dungeons and Dragons: Great job to our students for setting some time after school to socialize over a great game of Dungeons and Dragons. If you're interested in joining in let us know!
• Gaming Club: Great job Gaming Club!
