Baccalieu Collegiate Family Weekly Updates: Sunday, December 19th 2021

 Dear Families,

As many of you already know, plans before the Christmas holiday have shifted. While we will not be in the Tuesday and Wednesday before Christmas, we are planning on an important and joyous day tomorrow, Monday, December 20th 2021! Please do your best to spread kindness and optimism for our youth!

 Updates and Important Information

1) Important Memo: Please see attached Special Communication memo in response to the update by the government today. 

Monday, December 20th 2021 will be our students last day before the holiday. The agenda for tomorrow is as follows:

Period 1: Normally scheduled classes including any planned assessments

Period 2/3: Student lead Christmas activities including door decorating contest!

Period 4 (1pm): Grades 7-12 Awards Ceremony (for 2020-21 school year) held in gymnasium

Period 5: Important House cleaning items:

• Students must pack up any items they will need in the case we move to online learning in the New Year.
• Pass in any outstanding Cash Lottery sales and or unsold tickets
• Collect In-the-Box school clothing orders 
• Spend quality face-to-face time with peers and staff. 
• Wishing everyone a Happy Holidays!

2) Cap & Gown Ceremony: Unfortunately, the Cap & Gown Ceremony scheduled for Monday, December 20th 2021 at 7pm will be postponed. Future date is undetermined. 

3) Cash Lottery: Please remember to submit any outstanding Lottery Ticket monies and or unsold tickets.

4) In-the-box Clothing Orders: School Clothing orders will be at the school before the end of the day. Students will be able to pick up their orders in the afternoon after Awards Ceremony.

Good News Report (In no particular order)

Award Nominations: Thank-you to everyone who completed award nomination forms for the upcoming awards night. Your participation to recognize our youth's positive involvement is greatly appreciated. 

Cash Lottery: Huge thank-you to all students, staff, and greater community for doing such an amazing job selling tickets in support of our positive and healthy living programming at Baccalieu Collegiate!

Old Perlican Volunteer Fire Department: Huge thanks to our OP Volunteer Fire Department for supporting us with our Vax-Pass procedures during our past Christmas concert!

Food Drive: Great job Student leaders and thank-you to everyone who donated items in our Food Drive in support of our local food banks! 

Ronald McDonald House: What a great start we have made in just two weeks!!! Special thanks to those who have brought in tabs from home! Keep up the great work BCP!  Our big bottle is nearly full!!

GSA: Thank-you to our Gender Sexuality Association for standing-up for a safe and inclusive community!

Student Leadership: Huge thanks to our Student Leadership group for taking charge and leading our Student voice and activities at Baccalieu Collegiate! Amazing teamwork!

DL Open Mic Wednesday: Big congrats to Dominick for organizing and performing amazing sets during lunchtime Wednesdays. Looking forward to more! 

Volleyball: Huge congrats to our Grade 7/8 Girls Volleyball on winning gold at last week's tournament hosted by Carbonear Academy! Congrats players and coaches!

School Council Meeting: Thank-you to everyone who was able to attend our School Council meeting last week! Meeting minutes will be available on our website soon. 

Christmas Concert: What an incredible showing last week at our Christmas Concert! Thank-you to all staff for your teamwork on this. Congrats to Ms. Reid and Mr. Harte for leading some incredible performances. Congrats to all of the student performers involved. Go BCP Go!

Baccalieu Family Weekly Updates: Monday, December 13th 2021 (DAY 11)

Dear Families,

Good morning! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. 

Please support your children and our teachers through this last full week before a well-deserved break. It is important we make teaching and learning the priority this last full week and try and stay focused amongst all of the fun and excitement ahead. There is lots of fun planned, spreading joy and celebration in our final 2.5 days before Christmas!

1) Award Nominations Deadline: Deadline is today! December 13th 2021.

2) Cash Lottery: Cash Lottery Fundraiser ticket sales end this Friday, December 17th 2021. All sales and unsold tickets must be brought in by Friday. There are two $20.00 Jungle Jim's Gift Certificates up for grabs for the junior high and senior high students who sell the most tickets this final week. This is in addition to the pizza party for the class who sells the most tickets per capita and the monetary prizes for individuals who sell more than 50 tickets. Draw for the Cash Lottery will be Old Christmas Day January 6th 2022. 

3) Food Drive: Student Leadership are encouraging all classes to bring in non-perishable food items for our local food bank. The end date for collection is this Friday, December 17th 2021. 

4) Volleyball: Wishing our Grade 8 Girls Volleyball the best as they compete in a tournament this Tuesday, December 14th 2021 at Carbonear Academy. Go BCP Go!

5) School Council Meeting: School Council meeting Tuesday December 14th 2021 at 6:30pm. 

6) Christmas Dance: BCP Christmas Dance on Tuesday, December 14th 2021 from 7pm to 10pm. A $1.00 minimum donation for admission. Collected at the door. Canteen and bake sale at the dance. All proceeds will go to the Iris Kirby House. 

7) DL Open Mic Wednesday: Our Open Mic Wednesdays will continue this Wednesday, December 15th 2021 during lunch hour. 

8) Christmas Concert: The BCP Christmas Concert is Thursday, December 16th 2021 starting at 7pm. Monetary donations will be accepted at the door. Vax Pass is required for any person over the age of 12 years old. Mask wearing and hand sanitizing is required for audience members. 

9) Awards Ceremony: BCP Awards Night will be held for Grade 7-12 students during the afternoon Monday, December 20th 2021. This ceremony will be live streamed to our public. The Cap and Gown will take place during the evening starting at 7:00pm for the 2020-21 Graduates. Respective awards for these students will be provided during the evening's event.

Old Perlican Volunteer Fire Department: Huge thanks to our OP Volunteer Fire Department for supporting Baccalieu Collegiate with our Vax Pass procedures during events at our school. This makes in-person audiences possible!

Family-Teacher Conference: Thank-you families for your work making positive and constructive connections with our school and our teachers. 

Friday Night Volleyball: Big thanks to our Friday Night Volleyball crew for providing our community and youth opportunity to drop-in and have fun playing volleyball. 

Ronald McDonald House: What a great start we have made in just one week!!! Special thanks to those who have brought in tabs from home! Keep up the great work BCP!  The big bottle is already over half!

Christmas Carolling: Thank-you Mr. Harte for bringing the Choir around to various events in our communities, spreading the beautiful Christmas spirit. 

GSA: Thank-you Ms. Shannon Reid and our GSA for continuing your work cultivating a safe and inclusive environment in our school and future communities. 

Student Leadership: Huge thanks to our Student Leadership group for taking charge and leading our Student voice at Baccalieu Collegiate! Great work! The SL are creating so fun for everyone this last week prior to Christmas. 

Ball Hockey: Big thanks to Mr. Chris Sweetland for starting our ball hockey program early and providing our BCP boys a place to play floor hockey! 

Senior Boys Basketball: Congrats to our Senior Boys basketball team who beat the Ascension Collegiate Astros 64-48. 

Open Mic Wednesdays: Congrats Grade 11 Dominick LaMouche for leading and performing Open Mic Wednesdays for staff and students. What a great show!

Baccalieu Collegiate Weekly Updates: Monday, December 6th 2021 (DAY 6)

Dear Families,

Good morning! I hope you all enjoyed the beginning of a white Christmas last night. We have a packed month of learning, fun and excitement ahead of us. Please see the following updates for this coming week. Please refer to the Calendar for all events and deadlines.  If I have missed anything please reply-all to this email.

                                                             Updates and Important Information

1) Cash Lottery: Tickets sales are fantastic! We're around 3000 out of 5000 tickets sold. Be sure to bring in your sales to homeroom teacher regularly. If you have unsold tickets please be sure to bring them in as soon as you can so that other students will have chance to sell them. Remember, every 50 tickets sold is $50.00 in your pocket! Thank-you to all of our students and families for their support!

2) Family-Teacher Conference: Family-Teacher Conferences are today Monday, December 6th 2021 from 1-4pm and 5-7pm. We are using new appointment booking software. Please see attached Parent Guides to help you register and book appointments with teachers: Parent Instructions and/or Condensed Parent Instructions. Families will need to register and create their child, before booking appointments (as per the instructions) https://bcp.schoolappointments.com/. Families will see teacher links within the online software that they will us at the time of their appointment for the online conferencing. 

3) Senior Boys Basketball: The Senior Boys basketball team take on Ascension Collegiate this Wednesday, December 8th 2021. Game time is 4:30pm. Admission will welcome the public, however, it is required that anyone of the age 12 or older (this includes any students) must have a valid VaxxPass. Seating is limited to the gymnasium stage. Go BCO Go!

4)  PL Day: Our PL Closeout Day is confirmed for Friday, December 10th 2021. There will be no school for students on this day. 

5) Christmas Dance: Student Leadership is planning a Christmas Dance on Tuesday, December 14th 2021! A minimum donation of $1.00 is required at the door. There will be additional fun draws to be announced. All proceeds collected will be donated to the Iris Kirby House

6) School Council Meeting: Our School Council will meet Tuesday December 14th 2021 at 6:00pm. 

7) Christmas Concert: Presently, our BCP Christmas concert is booked for Thursday, December 16th 2021. The concert will welcome audience members from our community. Audience members 12 years and older must present a valid Vaxxpass for attendance. Further details to come. 

8) Awards Ceremony: BCP Awards Night will be held for Grade 7-12 students during the day on Monday, December 20th 2021. In the evening, past Graduates will come to the school for their Cap and Gown ceremony. Thank-you to all of our donors for making this possible. If you are sponsoring an award and have not make the donation yet please contact the office. We will be presenting our long list of amazing sponsors in the coming days!

Good News Report (In no particular order)

Volleyball: Congrats to our Grade 9 Volleyball team for winning a Sliver Medal in last week's tournament! 

Term End: Congrats to students and families for all of your accomplishments this past Term 1! 

Ronald McDonald House: Big thanks to Ms. Sweetland for spearheading the Pull Tab program in support of the Ronald McDonald House. Thank-you in advance to all of our students and families for their support! We'll keep you posted! 

Christmas Carolling: Thank-you Mr. Harte and our BCP Choir for spreading Christmas spirit in our communities! Last night a number of choir members did a beautiful job singing at the Old Perlican Fire Department after an amazing Christmas parade! Amazing show of community! Great job everyone!

Christmas in the Air: Huge thanks to Ms. Harris for bringing such beautiful holiday spirit to our school! Ms. Harris put up our tree and with the help of students did a #Baccalieuproud job of decorating it. As well, Ms. Harris went above and beyond decorations our halls with bows of holly. 

GSA: Thank-you Ms. S Reid and all of our GSA members at Baccalieu for amplifying voice and cultivating an inclusive environment in our school and future communities. 

Jamarama: Congrats to everyone for supporting Jamarama Day. We raised $210.60 dollars for our Janeway. Every bit counts!

Student Leadership: Way-to-go Student Leadership! Thank-you to teacher sponsors Ms. Noel, Ms. S Reid, and Ms. Ruttgaizer. It's amazing to see our students representing and leading our student body again at Baccalieu Collegiate. 

Ball Hockey: Great work boys ball hockey for thank-you to Coach Sweetland for providing our BCP boys a place to play floor hockey and readying them for future competition! 

Basketball: Amazing job Jordan Cashin for orchestrating the opportunity for our students to compete in various sports early in this year. And now he's coaching Basketball! Great work Senior Boys basketball players and best of luck in your first competition in almost 2 years!

Volleyball: Huge thanks to our Volleyball volunteer coaches: Christine Barnes (Senior Girls) and Alan Ash & Ewen Penney (Grades 7-9 & Sr. Junior Varsity) for dedicating their time to create such amazing opportunity for our youth to get together, compete, and have fun! Girls Volleyball is strong at Baccalieu Collegiate! 

Gaming Club: Huge thanks to Mr. Evan Harte for being the teacher sponsor for our Gaming Club! Great job building positive community to all of our gaming club players. 

Giving the Gift of Music: Immense appreciation for Mr. Harte as he leads so many music groups and activities for our students at Baccalieu. This, while doing much the same at his other school in Tricon! Congrats to all of our students involved! Whether you're a beginner or advances, when playing the gift of music you win!

BCP Troupe: Amazing to see our BCP Drama Troupe back in action. Great work and we look forward to your performances in the Christmas concert. Huge thanks to Ms. Reid and Mr. Harte for leading such an amazing and talented group of performers. 

Pre-Weekly Update: Thursday, December 2nd 2021

 Dear Families, 

Please see the following important updates:

1) Early Dismissal: Students will be dismissed early (12:00pm) on Monday, December 6th 2021. Cafeteria services will not be open this day. 

2) Family-Teacher Conferences: Conferences with teachers will be held on Monday, December 6th 2021.  These conferences will be held online. We are using new appointment booking software. Please see attached Parent Guides to help you register and book appointments with teachers: Parent Instructions and/or Condensed Parent Instructions. Weekly Updates: Tuesday, November 2nd 2021 (DAY 11)

Good morning! I hope our students had a productive and relaxing day off. Please see the following updates for this coming week. 

                                          Updates and Important Information

1) Lifetouch Photos: Lifetouch school photos have arrived. Picture orders are due back by Monday, November 8th 2021. Retakes are scheduled for December 1st 2021. 

2) Junior Girls Soccer: Best of luck today to Mr. Cashin and the Junior Girls Soccer team as they take on Amalgamated teams this afternoon in competition! 

3) School Council: School Council will have its first meeting November 2nd 2021 at 6:15pm. Meeting minutes and information will be posted on our school website.

4) BCP Christmas Cash Lottery: This week we will be releasing our BCP Christmas Cash Lottery! First place draw will be $5000.00, 2nd Place $500.00, and 3rd Place $50.00. Students can earn $50.00 for every 50 tickets sold. Tickets are $5.00. The lottery is for raising funds for a much needed new volleyball system, outdoor basketball hoop (supplement a current grant), and to support our athletics department. 

This fundraiser will be collected on December 17th 2021 and drawn on Old Christmas Day January 6th 2022. More details to come! Please gear up to sell tickets, not only for your chance to win, but to give yourself a few extra dollars for shopping around Christmas time (sell 50 tickets).

5) Tutoring (CDLI) Brochure: CDLI online Tutoring is available for any student. Please contact your respective subject teacher for more information.   

6) Remembrance Day: Just a reminder that we will have our Remembrance Day assembly (students and staff only) on November 10th 2021. We will broadcast the assembly to our community. More information to come. 

7) Remembrance Day Holiday: A reminder that November 11th 2021 is a holiday.

Weekly Updates: Monday, October 25th 2021 (DAY 5)

Good morning! Looking forward to a great week!. Please see the following updates for this coming week. If I have missed anything please reply-all to this email.

Important Note: Please supply your child with a reusable mask and/or a few disposable masks before coming to school. Also, remind them the importance of wearing their mask properly (over nose and mouth). 

                                             Updates and Important Information

1) Student Leadership Council: Please note that Baccalieu Collegiate is looking for students interested in being part of the BCP Student Leadership Council. This Council will be in charge of representing students, leading student activities, and leading change. Students will have opportunity to cultivate their leadership skills and abilities. To become part of the council, please see either Ms. Ruttgaizer and/or Ms. Noel. 

2) Tutoring for Tuition: Any students interested in tutoring for tuition please see Mr. Saxby. The rate of pay is $12.75/hour and earnings go towards any tuition to a post-secondary institute. 

3) Vax-Pass: Please note that the NLESD has implemented a Vax-Pass requirement for all Community Use of Schools and events that draw from the general public. More information will be present as it pertains to the events and people moving forward. 

4) Halloween Activity Night & Dance: Sign-up for the Halloween Activity Night and Dance will continue this week Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday during lunch in the main lobby. Admission ($5.00) and Food Orders (BBQ hamburgers $3.50, jumbo hotdogs $2.00, canned Pepsi/Mountain Dew, bottle Water $1.00, extra toppings for hamburgers and/or hotdogs $1.00) must be pre-ordered. Admission and food orders will not be taken at the door or during the event. The event will take place Thursday, October 28th 2021 from 6pm to 9pm. 

5) School Close Out: Baccalieu Collegiate will have a Close out Day November 1st 2021. Students are not permitted to attend. 

6) School Council: School Council will have its first meeting November 2nd 2021 at 6:15pm.  

7) Tutoring (CDLI) Brochure: Teachers, please see attached CDLI Tutoring opportunity for your students and families. You may want to access this for a student as part of an intervention strategy. 

8) Remembrance Day: Baccalieu Collegiate will be having a Remembrance Day assembly on November 10th 2021. This event will be live broadcasted. The event will not be open to the public. 

9) Awards Night: Baccalieu Collegiate is planning to host its Awards Night on December 20th 2021 starting 6:30pm. More details to come. 

10) Calendar: Remember to check the Baccalieu Collegiate Events Calendar for a listing and times for all our events, Close out Days etc. This can be found on our website www.baccalieucollegiate.ca
