BCP Family Weekly Updates: Monday, September 23rd 2024 (DAY 14)

Dear Families

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekends. Congrats to our Girls Soccer and Boys Softball teams! Thank-you in advance for taking the time to review updates and important reminders! Any questions or concerns let me know. If I have missed anything please reply-all to this email. 

BCP Weekly Updates Submission Form: A focus at Baccalieu Collegiate in the 2024 school year is to build a strong and connected community. A pillar to building this is effective communication. Volunteer coaches, members of town council, families etc.  are invited to share information, events, and/or good news with our BCP community via BCP Weekly Updates Submission FormPlease complete the form to have your news pertinent to students and families shared on our BCP weekly updates email. 

                                       Updates and Important Information

1) BCP Lighthouse Project Meeting: There will be a brief meeting for students interested in joining the BCP Lighthouse Project. New training for the project will begin! The meeting will be brief and begin at the start of lunch on Monday, September 23rd 2024 in room 149. Current Lighthouse members are also asked to attend. 

2) Gr. 8 & 9 Immunization Consent FormsReminder to Gr. 8 & 9 students to return Immunization Consent Forms as soon as possible. Please pass to the Homeroom teacher or Main Office. Thanks.

3) KES looking for volunteers: BCP Breakfast program is looking for volunteers. If you can help out one day a month that would be great. Please reach out to Ms. LeShane .

4) BCP Student Leadership Council & Representatives Group: Baccalieu Collegiate is inviting students who would like to join the Leadership group to please complete the following Student Leadership Interest Form. Students Leadership is for students who would like to be a part of organizing student spirit days and events, gain valuable training and experience leading, and represent student voice at Baccalieu Collegiate. Students can join the Leadership Committee and/or become a class representative. Please complete the form before Friday, September 27th 2024

5) School Forms: We still have a number of families yet to complete the -- Acceptable Use of Technology, Athletic Contract (if applicable), Media Consent, Core Digital Tools Consent forms. Parents/Guardians must access their respective parent account (not the student account) to see and complete these forms. Please complete at your earliest convenience. 

6) Drama sign-up and meetingThere is a sign up sheet outside room 149 for anyone wishing to join the drama troupe this year. We will be having a very short meeting at the beginning of lunch Tuesday, September 24th 2024 in room 149. It is important for anyone wishing to participate this year to come to the meeting.

7) Senior Boys Basketball: Senior Boys Basketball Training/Tryout will continue on Tuesday, September 24th 2024 from 7:00-9:00pm.

8) Boys Soccer: Boys Soccer Practice will go ahead this week on Tuesday and Thursday from 3-4:30pm. Please arrange for pick up by 4:30pm. 

9) Cross Country Running: During this upcoming school week Cross Country timing will be on Wednesday and Friday rather than Tuesday and Thursday. Practice will be from 2:55-3:25 each day. 

10) 295 Baccalieu Sea Cadets: Members of the 295 Baccalieu Sea Cadets will visit the school on Wednesday, September 25th 2024 in the afternoon to recruit new members. Sea Cadet enrollment is very low these past years and they are looking to try and improve numbers. 

11) After School Tutoring: Mr. Holloway's after school tutoring will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays after school from 3:00 to 4:00pm.

12) Badminton Interest: Ms. Oliver would like to start a Badminton Club after school at the John Hoskins Community Center in the near future. A letter of interest will be shared with the students in the upcoming days. If there are any adults that would like to help build Badminton in the area please email Ms. Oliver at nancyoliver@nlschools.ca 

13) Truth and Reconciliation Day: NL Schools will observe National Truth and Reconciliation Day on September 30th 2024

14) BCP Close out Day: Please note that Baccalieu Collegiate has tentatively scheduled Closeout PL Day on Friday, October 11th 2024

15) Reminder -- Absence/Sign-in/Sign-out (Family): Child Absent? Complete the form BCP ABSENT FORM without having to call or email the respective homeroom teacher. You can do that too. 

16) School Allergies: Please be aware that the following foods are prohibited at school due to severe allergies including nuts, fish, shellfish, egg, and pumpkin. 

17) BCP Athletic Shirts and Apparel: Students/Parents/Guardians can now order Baccalieu Predators Athletics shirts through In the Box NL online store. The clothing options include: dri-fit short sleeve, dri-fit long sleeve, crew neck sweatshirt, and hooded sweatshirt all in grey or navy blue. NOTE: For some sports teams you will be asked to order a shirt with a number to be used as a jersey, this will be at the direct instruction of your coach. Do not order a shirt with a number without consulting directly with your coach. BCP Athletic shirts are a quality low cost option for short term sports teams. Good News Report (In no particular order)
  • Boys Softball: The boys softball team played in the regional tournament on Sunday in Ferryland. Players improved as the games unfolded and they showed amazing sportsmanship. Congratulations BCP!
  • Girls Soccer: Congratulations to the Girls Soccer Team on a great showing at the Regional Qualifier tournament this weekend. The girls played hard, displayed positive attitudes and came home with a silver medal. Congratulations to Stephanie LeShane on receiving the sportsmanship award!
  • Canada Games Tryout: Congrats to Tyson Noonan, Blake Delaney, and Drake Strong for a strong showing at the NLBA Canada Games tryout. 

  • Meet and Greet -- Curriculum Night: Thank-you to all the families that showed up for Meet and Greet/Curriculum Night. It was an amazing connection!

  • Soccer, Softball, and Cross Country: Big thank-you to Ms. Oliver, Ms. Leshane, Mr. Barrett, Ms. Petten for giving up their time for our youth in sport! 

  • Girls Volleyball: Thank-you to our Girl's Volleyball Volunteer coaches for beginning their respective seasons and providing opportunity for youth involvement and growth of sport. 

  • Grade 8 Meeting: Thank-you to Ms. Mcdonald and all the Grade 8 staff for making time to meet this past week.
