BCP Family Weekly Updates: Monday, May 27th 2024 (DAY 4)

Dear Families,

I hope everyone had a great weekend. Thank-you in advance for taking the time to review updates and important reminders! Any questions or concerns let me know. If I have missed anything please reply-all to this email. 

                                                                                                                                                                                                 Updates and Important Information

1) Intro to Track & Field @ Carbonear: We have plenty of athletes at Baccalieu! On Monday May 27th from 3:30pm - 5:30pm Baccalieu students are welcome to go to the Carbonear Track/Field to experience Track and Field and possibly find their niche. Monday will be an introduction to the basics of some throwing, running, and jumping events! Sessions will be put off by the Canada Games Team NL Coaches. Any athletes in the area who are interested in Track & Field are welcomed to show up to try it out! Please spread the word and encourage our boys and girls.

2) Grade 9 PRMA: Please note that all Grade 9 students must complete the Provincial Reading and Math Assessment (PRMA). The test will be administered on Wednesday, May 29th 2024. Students do not have to prepare for this assessment.  Please see poster for more information: PRMA POSTER

3) Prom + Early Dismissal: This Friday, May 31st 2024 is the big PROM for our 2024 graduating class. We will dismiss early at the end of Period 4 so that teachers may have an opportunity to attend respective graduate party invitations. 

4) Family Announcement: For your information (FYI) Confronting an Epidemic of Drug Use in Schools. The following report is based out of America but might be of use for informing families on what is going on in schools across North America. Baccalieu Collegiate will remain committed to combating such an epidemic. Knowledge is power. 

5) Important Memo:  Naloxone Kits Added to First-Aid Response Package for Schools with Junior High and Senior High Grades. We must acknowledge that "young Canadians aged 15-24 are the fastest growing population requiring hospital care from opioid overdoses. People in our province have experienced opioid related harms, and these issues affect both urban and rural populations." 

6) Social Media, Terms and Conditions for Student Use: Please take time and review the School District policySocial Media: Terms and Conditions for Student Use. It is especially important to review and understand the Privacy component of the policy. 

7) Study Hall: A reminder that Study Hall is every Tuesday and Wednesday from 3-4pm.  Support from students and teachers are available. Don't be shy. Come to the Study Hall!

8) Important Allergy Reminder:This is a reminder to our school community that we have people in the school who have scent allergies. Please do not wear strong scents to school as it affects a person's health. Additionally, please do not bring in fish, shellfish, eggs, or nuts. Thank-you. 

9) BCP Athletic Shirts and Apparel: Students/Parents/Guardians can now order Baccalieu Predators Athletics shirts through In the Box NL online store. The clothing options include: dri-fit short sleeve, dri-fit long sleeve, crew neck sweatshirt, and hooded sweatshirt all in grey or navy blue. NOTE: For some sports teams you will be asked to order a shirt with a number to be used as a jersey, this will be at the direct instruction of your coach. Do not order a shirt with a number without consulting directly with your coach. BCP Athletic shirts are a quality low cost option for short term sports teams. Good News Report (In no particular order)
  • Baccalieu Idol: Congratulations to everyone involved in supporting and making another year's BCP Idol a huge success. In particular, thank-you to Ms. Sequeira and all of the hard working participants! Congrats to all participants including our 2024 Baccalieu Idol Alyssa Delaney! 

  • Lighthouse Crew: Huge thanks to our Lighthouse Project crew who captured all of our best Baccalieu Idol moments! 

  • Grade 7/8 Waterloo Math Contest:  Thank you to the grade 7/8 students who volunteered to write the Gauss Waterloo Math Contest on Wednesday, May 22.  Congratulations to Michael Noonan on getting the highest score in our school for grade 7, and to Nolan Squires on getting the highest score in our school for grade 8. 

  • Grade 6 Orientation: Great to see our incoming Grade 6 students! Thank-you Tricon, Perlwin, and Cabot! Thank-you Ms. Doyle for organizing this important first step. Also thank you Emma Bursey and Cameron Bursey for working with our incoming crew! 

  • Grade 10 Boys Basketball: Congrats to a great showing by our Grade 10 boys basketball team at the Ascension invitational. The group went 1-2 in play, beating Roncalli, and losing to Ascension and Laval by a combined 14 points. 

  • Staff Meeting: Thank-you teachers!

  • KES: Thank-you Ms. LeShane for organizing our Kids Eat Smart breakfast program and thank-you to all of our community volunteers! Huge thank-you to all of our volunteers for making this program happen. If you wish to support, please reach out to the school. 
  • Study Hall: Huge thanks to Mr. Holloway for giving up his time to support student learning every Tuesday and Wednesday afterschool! 
  • Doorways: Thank-you Doorways for their bi-weely meetings Wednesday. Please reach out to Ms. Doyle if you would like an appointment made for you.
