BCP Family Weekly Updates: Monday, April 29th 2024 (DAY 13)

Dear Families,

                                            Updates and Important Information

1) Drama Troupe Fundraising: Thank you for your continued support. As part of our Drama's fundraising efforts for upcoming Provincial competition in Corner Brook we will be selling tickets on three prizes: a print, a gift card tree, and a Montreal and Toronto banner. Tickets cost 2.00 each or 3 for 5.00. Stay tuned for more information and how you can get your tickets! Also, please be reminded that on Tuesday, April 23rd 2024 the troupe will be performing their play along with special music performances! See our Baccalieu Collegiate  facebook for more details! 

2) School Council Meeting: We will have our school council meeting Tuesday, April 30th 2024 starting at 6:30pm

3) Drama Troupe: Big upcoming trip for our Senior Drama Troupe who are en route to Corner Brook to represent Baccalieu and the Avalon West region at the Provincial Tournament. Thank-you for all the dedication and thanks for all of the amazing support!! Good luck Go BCP Go!

5) Social Media, Terms and Conditions for Student Use: Please take time and review the School District policySocial Media: Terms and Conditions for Student Use. It is especially important to review and understand the Privacy component of the policy. 

6) Study Hall: A reminder that Study Hall is every Tuesday and Wednesday from 3-4pm.  Support from students and teachers are available. Don't be shy. Come to the Study Hall!

7) Student Accomodations at Memorial: In case you're exploring an overnight opportunity for a student trip or gathering, have a look at Memorial's Accommodation package

8) Important Allergy Reminder:This is a reminder to our school community that we have people in the school who have scent allergies. Please do not wear strong scents to school as it affects a person's health. Additionally, please do not bring in fish, shellfish, eggs, or nuts. Thank-you. 

9) BCP Athletic Shirts and Apparel: Students/Parents/Guardians can now order Baccalieu Predators Athletics shirts through In the Box NL online store. The clothing options include: dri-fit short sleeve, dri-fit long sleeve, crew neck sweatshirt, and hooded sweatshirt all in grey or navy blue. NOTE: For some sports teams you will be asked to order a shirt with a number to be used as a jersey, this will be at the direct instruction of your coach. Do not order a shirt with a number without consulting directly with your coach. BCP Athletic shirts are a quality low cost option for short term sports teams. Good News Report (In no particular order)
  • Homeroom Pictures: Thank-you Ms. Slade and all participants organizing our homeroom yearbook pictures Monday afternoon. Thank-you!

  • Red House Monster: Thank-you to the The Red House Monster production crew and all the community support regarding the last performance at the school Tuesday, April 23rd 2024 at Baccalieu Collegiate and before their provincial trip to Corner Brook this weekend. Big thanks to Amity, Adya and Trevor for supporting the show with amazing music!

  • Splash Centre Grow-up Program: Thank-you Ms. LeShane and all the Career Education students for participating in the Splash Centre program. Thank-you Ms. Janine Simmons all everyone at the Splash Centre for providing the opportunity. 

  • 2024-25 Course Selection:  Thank-you to all of the parents and students who completed the Course Selection Form due April 25th 2024. 

  • Ball Hockey Regionals: Thank-you to Mr. Foley and Mr. Fudge and the whole BCP ball hockey team, families, and community for supporting a very successful host of the Regional Ball Hockey tournament. 

  • Ball Hockey: Huge thank-you to Cameron Bursey for volunteering his time to record live the ball hockey tournament for fans this weekend! Great job!

  • KES: Thank-you Ms. LeShane for organizing our Kids Eat Smart breakfast program and thank-you to all of our community volunteers! Huge thank-you to all of our volunteers for making this program happen. If you wish to support, please reach out to the school. 
  • AMITY: Congrats to Hilary North, Emma Bursey, and Alyssa Delaney for continuing their musical journey with much success! Congrats on your first gig in Clarenville. The sky's the limit. Wishing you all unconditional community support!
  • Study Hall: Huge thanks to Mr. Holloway for giving up his time to support student learning every Tuesday and Wednesday afterschool!

BCP Family Weekly Updates: Monday, April 22nd 2024 (DAY 8)

 Dear Families,

                                          Updates and Important Information

1) Splash Centre Grow-up Program: On Monday, April 22 and Tuesday, April 23 our Career Education Students will travel offsite for their programming. Bus departs school at 9:00am and is expected to arrive in Harbour Grace between 10:00 and 10:30 for start time. They will leave Harbour Grace at 1:30 to be back to school for the afternoon bus home. Students can bring snacks and a refillable water bottle. We are providing lunch, but they can bring a lunch of their own if they wish. Students who are doing the cooking lesson will be making tacos for their lunch, and those who are not doing that until the next day will be provided lunch from Subway. (If there are any dietary issues or allergies, please let me know and I will make sure to accommodate!)  Cooking, cleaning, and laundry will take place at BelleView Manor Inn and presented by the inn workers and myself. Sexual Health will take place at the SPLASH Centre presented by Planned Parenthood NL. (This will cover a variety of topics, such as consent, STI's, protection from STI's and pregnancy, etc.) Car Care and Maintenance Organization will be presented by SPLASH staff at the centre, and the Telephone skills is an online presentation from CSCNL. 

2) 2024-25 Course Selection:  The following course selection form is for students currently in Grades 9, 10, and 11 to complete. Please read the instructions carefully. This form lays out all Grade 10-12 course options. Please choose grade appropriate and program appropriate selections.  Also, please note the form lays out all Grades courses to provide students a general idea of courses over the next three years for planning purposes. Form: 2024-25 Graduation Program Course Selection. Deadline for completion is Tuesday, April 23rd 2024. Please complete the selection as if final however there could be another updated selection form sent out again depending on resource allocation. 

3) Red House Monster: The Provincial Qualifying BCP Drama Production: The Red House Monster is being performed Tuesday, April 23rd 2024 at Baccalieu Collegiate at 7pm. It will be a show to remember with other musical performances including Amity, Adya & Trevor.

Good News Report (In no particular order)
  • Grates Cove Studio Field Trip: Thank-you to Grates Cove Studio and 7 Fathoms for hosting a tremendous learning experience for our Nutrition class. They touched on a lot of things- growing an idea into a business, pivoting and adapting as conditions change, seaweed and how this connects to overall health, economic development opportunities in rural Newfoundland, etc.  

  • Horizon's Student Leadership Conference: Huge thank-you to Ms. Noel and all the students who attended this leadership conference! 

  • Grade 11 Boys Basketball: Congrats to the Gr. 9-11 Boys Basketball for an excellent showing this past weekend at Carbonear Collegiate. 

  • Ball Hockey: Huge thanks to Mr. Fudge and Mr. Foley for making ball hockey happen at Baccalieu! Congrats to the players! Congrats on being the Regional Qualifier hosts!

  • KES: Thank-you Ms. LeShane for organizing our Kids Eat Smart breakfast program and thank-you to all of our community volunteers! Huge thank-you to all of our volunteers for making this program happen. If you wish to support, please reach out to the school.

BCP Family Weekly Updates: Monday, April 15th 2024 (DAY 3)

                                              Updates and Important Information

1) Horizon's Student Leadership Conference: On Tuesday, April 16th 2024 Carbonear Collegiate will be hosting a Horizon's Leadership Conference. Registration is now closed. Students who registered should connect with Ms. Noel on a time to meet (between 8am and 9am). Way-to-go students for stepping up to this conference! 

2) Important Reminders for Families and Students: As we approach the end of the year Baccalieu Administration is focusing on and enforcing the following behaviour expectations for students:


-- Grades 7-9 students must keep their cell phones in their bags during classtime. Students are not permitted to have their phones on their person or out of their bags unless permitted to do so by the teacher. Also, students are not permitted to have their phone when excused from class. Failure to comply will result in confiscation of the phone. Any high school students abusing their privileges of the above will have to follow the Grades 7-9 rules. 


-- Students are required to make their learning visible and participate in activities during class time. Students will not receive a mark for learning unless the learning can be validated. 


-- Any students disrupting class time activities and learning including acting foolish or disrespectful for any reason will be sent out of class - no questions asked. 


3) Course Selections: Please note that this week a course selection form will be sent out to students and families. Students will have 48 hours to complete the form after it is sent out.

5) Grade 9 Boys Basketball: The Grade 9 Boys Basketball team competes this Tuesday, April 16 2024 at Carbonear Academy in the JV SSNL Regional Tournament. Schedule is posted on our school calendar.

6) Study Hall: A reminder that Study Hall is every Tuesday and Wednesday from 3-4pm.  Support from students and teachers are available. Don't be shy. Come to the Study Hall!

7) Grates Cove Studio Field Trip: A reminder that our Nutrition Class will be going to Grates Cove Studios to learn more about Gastro Diplomacy, growing business in our community, and much much more! Thank-you Grates Cove Studio and 7 Fathoms! 

8) Gr. 11U Boys Basketball: The Gr. 11 and under NLBA tournament starts this Thursday, April 18th 2024 with our squad competing against Carbonear Collegiate. The rest of the games are played on Saturday, April 20th 2024 with the crossovers on Sunday

Good News Report (In no particular order)
  • Grade 8 Girls Volleyball: Congrats to all the team for an excellent showing this weekend at Frank Roberts! The girls placed third in their division and came up short in the playoffs. They lost their match in 3 sets. They did well competing against all the club teams. The main thing they went having fun and came out having fun. We're very proud of how far they have come!

  • Grade 9 Boys Basketball: Congrats to the Gr. 9 Boys Basketball for an excellent showing this past weekend at the Mount Pearl Intermediate Tournament. The boys are certainly turning heads in the big city. 

  • Ball Hockey: Huge thanks to Mr. Fudge and Mr. Foley for making ball hockey happen at Baccalieu! Congrats to the players! Congrats on being the Regional Qualifier hosts!

  • Badminton: Congrats to everyone who participated in the Regional Qualifier in badminton this weekend. Big thanks to Coach Foley for coaching and making this happen!

  • Lions Club Speak off: Congratulations Emma Bursey. 1st runner up at the District Speak Out in Gander today. All 7 speakers were fantastic. The scores were very close between Emma and the 1st place winner! As always, she represented her area and our school amazingly❤️

BCP Family Weekly Updates: Monday, April 8th 2024 (DAY 12)

Welcome back and for the home stretch! I hope everyone enjoyed the Easter holiday for some very well deserved R&R. Let's get back at it and have a great spring!                                            Updates and Important Information


1) Horizon's Student Leadership Conference: On Tuesday, April 16th 2024 Carbonear Collegiate will be hosting a Horizon's Leadership Conference. Active BCP Leadership students will qualify for this conference for free. Any students not active or not participating on the BCP Leadership group but wish to attend can do so at the cost of $30 registration fee.  Don't miss your chance to register for a Newfoundland and Labrador Horizons Leadership Conference near you this April!  Registration deadline is April 11th 2024. If you wish to attend please contact Ms. Abby Noel and pay your $30 registration fee (if applicable) before April 10th 2024. Currently students must find their own transporation however depending on the response and available seats we might be in a position to consider bus transportation. 3) Drama Festival Fundraisers:  There will be fundraising efforts underway this week in support of our BCP Senior Drama Troupe who were selected to attend the Provincial Drama Festival in Corner Brook. There will be chocolate bars sold by drama members so their families will be reaching out to the public. The Troupe are also planning ticket sales on a beautiful print donated by the unbelievably talented local artist, Florence Maud Pinhorn, the last one to be sold. Also a gift card tree and some other prizes. The Troupe will also be organizing a bake sale on April 20. Stay tuned for details. Thank you all in advance for your support in this exciting, first ever initiative, for Baccalieu Collegiate!

  • Wing Day: Big thanks to Baccalieu staff and students for making the best out of a lost Winter Carnival and Spring Day. Congrats to everyone who had fun! 

  • Grow-up Program (Career Education Students): Huge thanks for the continued programming offered by Splash Centre to support students essential life skills. 

  • Ball Hockey: Huge thanks to Mr. Fudge and Mr. Foley for making ball hockey happen at Baccalieu! Congrats to the players!

  • Badminton: Huge thank-you again for Mr. Foley and Mr. Fudge for making Badminton happen at Baccalieu! Good luck to all our participants. 

  • Grade 8 Girls Volleyball: Congrats to the Grade 8 Girls Volleyball squad on a great showing in the their tournament past March 23rd 2024. Keep up the fun and hard work!

  • BCP Drama Troupe Performance:rama Troupe: Congratulations to our Jr. and Sr. Drama Troupes for their amazing performances during the Drama Festival. Congratulations to our Senior Troupe for placing first and moving on to Provincials held in Corner Brook! Wowzers! Special thanks to Ms. Reid, Ms. Bolt, and Mr. Cody Peddle for volunteering their time to lead this brilliant iniative! Congrats to Senior Dram Award Winners: Best Actor in female lead -- Emma Bursey, Best Supporting Actor -- Aylssa Delaney, Nominations for Best Supporting Actor -- Anna March-Mulrooney and Hillary North; Nomination for Best Actor -- Reagan Hopkins; Adjudicators Award for "stepping up and taking over a role on short notice" -- Reagan Hopkins; Best Costume -- BCP Senior Drama Troupe!

  • Lions Club Speak off: Congratulations to Emma Bursey and Anna March-Mulrooney on their amazing performances this evening at the Lion’s Club’s Zone Speak Out. A special congratulations to Emma Bursey for placing first place and will be moving on to the Regional Speak out in Gander! Good Luck Emma!

  • Grade 9 Boys Basketball: Grade 9 Boys Basketball: Congrats to our Provincial D NLBA Champions who went undefeated in the tournament held in Arnold's Cove! 

  • Family-Teacher Conferences: Thank-you to all of our families who joined teacher in conference! 

  • CDLI Chemistry: Congrats Emma Bursey and Jessical Slade for winning Gold (WISE Senior Award) for their topic on effects of Shampoo on the Tensile Strength of Hair. Congrats Brayden Barrett for winning Bronze (IEEE Award and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) for his topic Tesla Coils and Wireless Energy. Special thanks to Ms. Yvonne Dawe (CDLI Chemistry 3202 instructor) for creating this opportunity and driving the students to be their best.

  •  Lion's Club KES: Thank-you to our Lions Club for serving hot breakfast to our students on Friday, March 22th 2024
