BCP Family Weekly Updates: Monday, December 11th 2023 (DAY 11)

Dear Families,

Happy Monday. I hope everyone enjoyed their very busy weekend (presumed). One more weekend left until the Christmas holidays and a time to relax with the ones that are close to you. This week will be busy with fabulous events but also remember the learning continues and assessments are still part of the process. Please support your children time management and encourage focus. Next week will be fun too!  Thank-you in advance for taking the time to review updates and important reminders! Any questions or concerns let me know. If I have missed anything please reply-all to this email.

Lunchtime gym access will be cancelled for both days. All afterschool practices will be cancelled until Wednesday, December 13th 2023 in preparation of the event. Thank-you in advance for your cooperation.

Thank-you everyone for providing your community chance to win the $5000.00. The odds are especially right.

3) Christmas Concert: Baccalieu Collegiate will be presenting a spirited Christmas Concert on December 12th 2023. This amazing event will be open to the public. Monetary donations will be collected at the door as well as a place to donate non-perishables for the local food bank. Raffle tickets will be available at the concert for a gift basket. Doors for the concert will open at 6:30pm with the show starting at 7pm

6) School Council Christmas Dinner: Baccalieu Collegiate annual School Council Christmas dinner will be going ahead on Friday, December 15th 2023 at 11:55am for all students and staff. The dinner will be served by school council members and volunteers. During lunch all students are required in the gymnasium. This is a special occasion for all to come and break bread together so there will not be adequate supervision in the rest of the building during this time. Students are permitted not to attend, however they will need to leave school premises during the lunchtime. We're happy to invite School Council members and volunteers into the school during this day preparing this amazing feast.

7) Gathering History Project: Baccalieu Collegiate will be inviting seniors from our school communities to the school on Friday, December 15th 2023 starting at 1pm. Seniors will be served Christmas dinner and invited to share stories from their past with participating students.

10)  Christmas Outing: This year we will be going on our annual Christmas Outing on Tuesday December 19, 2023. Please note parents/guardians must complete the online Rycor permission form to attend. Payment online is also available for convenience and families are encouraged to complete both the form and payment online. Powerschool instructions to support parents/guardians can be accessed by clicking the link. Families in special circumstances can request the permission form in paper copy from the office as well as make cash payment.

11) Skilled Trades Volunteers: Still looking, spread the word. Any persons in our community who would like to volunteer to help mentor our students in the shop please reach out to jeffsaxby@nlesd.ca and/or call the school 709 587-3211. Skilled trade modules include: plumbing, electrical, flooring, framing, etc. Members of the community who are interested in positively influencing our students' work please reach out to find out more information. Please note that the email was changed due to problems with the other email. We did not receive any messages due to technical issues.

12) Tutor Hall: We have a few Tutors for Tuition who can now work with students directly after school. Teachers who have students struggling can reach out to families and make the recommendation that their child stay after school for a quiet space to work and gain support.

13) Accident/Incident Form: Please be advised that Accident/Injury Report forms must be completed if/when an injury to a student occurs in your supervision. The Accident/Incident Form should be completed and sent to Mr. Barrett for review before he submits it to the district. He will then receive an automatic reply confirming receipt, as well as a reminder of next steps should a parent/guardian need to open a claim with Student Insurance (SSQ) because of an injury.

14) Assessment Support Calendar: Please do your best to add assessments to our Assessment Support Calendar. This calendar is shared on our www.baccalieucollegiate.ca site for both students and families to see and support their organization. Additionally, give our IRT team a heads up at your earliest convenience so that they can mobilize effectively to support.
