BCP Family Weekly Updates: Monday, November 27th 2023 (DAY 1)

 Dear Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. December is fast approaching. Please note that there was not an update last week. Catch up on all this week's action here! Thank-you in advance for taking the time to review updates and important reminders! Any questions or concerns let me know. If I have missed anything please reply-all to this email.

                                         Updates and Important Information

1) Student Leadership Food Drive: The student leadership group will be having a food drive. As an incentive to promote this fundraiser, the leadership will have a basket of goodies done up to draw for on the night of the Christmas concert.  For every item a student brings in they will have thier name put into the basket for the draw.

Also, the students are going to be doing a raffle for a basket to fundraise for local charities.  If anyone has anything they would like to donate to the basket, the leadership group would really appreciate it! Items like decorative things, candles, knitted items, chocolates, etc.

2)  Cash Lottery Draw: Time is running low! Sell your tickets and pass them in to secure an upcoming payout and give your homeroom an idea where they stand in the party race. Who will win the $5000? Anyone's chance! Do not leave any tickets on the table. If you will not sell your tickets please bring them in and we'll re-distribute to someone who will!

3) Splash Centre Grow-up Program: Career Education students will be participating in the GROW-UP PROGRAM's first day offering Tuesday, November 28th 2023. We're excited to have our students and program partnering up with the Splash Centre for this enhanced programming that helps our youth learn real-world skills and answers youths real-world questions. Furthermore, we are especially excited that this programming hits most/all of the Career Education learning targets and all of this hands-on learning will be assessed for the course.

The program for Tuesday includes:
1. Introduction to the program, SPLASH Centre, and YPDC,
2. CBDC - Banking Basics,
3. CBDC - Youth Ventures and entrepreneurship,
4. VolunTeens - Volunteerism ,
5. VolunTeens - Interview Skills & Self Care.

Money Management presentation will discuss student short- and long-term goals, obtaining and the importance of a Social Insurance Number, Life Skills, paystubs, opening a bank account, credit reports, credit score and monitoring and much more. Youth Ventures/CBDC Programs presentation will touch on the YV program and chat about other programs geared towards youth wanting to start their own business. Volunteerism  will discuss the VolunTeens program and how they can help youth find volunteer opportunities and the personal and community benefits of volunteering. Interview Skills & Self Care will discuss tips and how to prepare for an interview. They will also discuss ways to help take care of yourself before and after an interview to help relieve nerves and anxiety.

4) Family/Teacher Conferences: Teachers will be available to meet with families regarding Term 1 reports on Thursday, November 30th 2023 from 1-4pm and 5-7pm in the gymnasium. Families with students struggling either academically, socially, or behaviourally should find the time to visit and discuss solutions with teachers.
