BCP Family Weekly Updates: Monday, March 27th 2023 (DAY 8)

Dear Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Thank-you in advance for taking the time to review updates and important reminders! Any questions or concerns let me know. If I have missed anything please reply-all to this email.

                                      Updates and Important Information

1) Cafeteria: Please note that our school cafeteria will re-open starting Tuesday, March 28th 2023

2) Doorways: Doorways will be at the school on Wednesday, March 29th 2023

3) E-Mental Health Quick Guide: Check out this all-inclusive reference guide E-Mental Health Quick Guide to support yourself and/or family in any situation.

4) Social Media Tips for Families: We know that although we work hard at school to help our students learn what it means to be Good Digital Citizens (a person who is able to navigate our digital environments in a way that’s safe and responsible and to actively and respectfully engage in these spaces), it is also important that our families and caregivers are included in our conversations. As a way for us to continue this conversation with our families and caregivers, our Program Itinerants for Safe & Inclusive Schools have created and shared this infographic with us: Social Media Tips For Families. The goal of sharing this information is to help us work together to ensure we are modeling what it means to be Good Digital Citizens. We know that our families and our caregivers are our students' first teachers and that it is essential we include you as part of our district-wide program in this area. Together, we can be positive role models for our students. Please connect with your school administrator or guidance counsellor if you are looking for support in helping your child navigate the digital world, or if you have any concerns that you would like to discuss. Working together, we can make being a Good Digital Citizen a priority at school and at home.

5) Close out PL Date: On Friday, March 31st 2023 Baccalieu will have a close out day.

6) (Family) School Development Surveys: Please encourage any families that you are speaking to to complete the Family School Development Survey. We currently have a 19%  Family Response Rate. It'd be great to improve this to something over 50%. https://www.research.net/r/SDFamily2223EN

7) Ronald McDonald House: BCP staff, students and families are invited to bring in their pop pull tabs and place them in the bucket near the lobby. Baccalieu Collegiate will again be collecting pull tabs in support of the Ronald McDonald House. Last year we collected over 3 X 18.5 litre bottles full. Let's beat that number this year!

8) Assessment Support Calendar: Please do your best to add assessments to our Assessment Support Calendar. This calendar is shared on our www.baccalieucollegiate.ca site for both students and families to see and support their organization. Additionally, give our IRT team a heads up at your earliest convenience so that they can mobilize effectively to support.

9) Check the Calendar: Check the Calendar (www.baccaliecollegiate.ca) for further and future updates

Good News Report (In no particular order)
  • Hot Dog Lunch Sale: Big thanks to our SDT and Leadership groups creating lunch opportunities the past week.

  • Family-Teacher Conferences: Huge thank-you to all the families who attended the Family-Teacher conferences on Wednesday. We cannot stress enough the importance of getting out of the house and attending events like these as it can build a powerful relationship between teachers and families. We need this working relationship to accelerate the growth of our youth (no matter where they are) and knowing that home and school are working together!

  • Memorial University Advising Outreach: Thank-you to MUN advising for supporting our students! If you want to attend MUN but have not completed an application please see Ms. Doyle as soon as possible!

  • CDLI Family-Teacher Conferences: Thank-you to those families with CDLI students who attended an appointment with respective CDLI teacher(s). Great job!

  • Doorways: Big thanks for Doorways presence at our school! Looking forward to seeing them again this week!

  • Jr. Boys Basketball: Congrats to our Gr. 7-9 Junior Boys basketball team who competed at Holy Redeemer this past weekend!

  • Sports & Other Practices & Events: So many sports and other events going on afterschool. Please check out Baccalieu Calendar for a listing of events and times! Thank-you to all of our students for getting involved and teachers and volunteers for giving up your time for our youth!
  • Check Facebook/Twitter: For more updates on good news and information check out our Baccalieu Collegiate facebook/twitter page.
  • Did I miss something? If I missed anything please be sure to reply-all. There are so many amazing things going on at Baccalieu already, so chances are I might miss something. Celebrate whenever you can!
