BCP Family Weekly Updates: Monday, October 17th 2022 (DAY 14)

 Dear Staff,

I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful fall weekend. Thank-you in advance for taking the time to review updates and important reminders! Any questions or concerns let me know. If I have missed anything please reply-all to this email. 

                                             Updates and Important Information

Happy Birthday Ms. Denise Reid! (Monday, October 17th 2022) 

1) Cross Country Regional Run: Monday, October 17th 2022 (Carbonear Collegiate). Good luck to our athletes!

2) Randy DeGruchy (CDLI) Visit: Randy from CDLI will be visiting our school and our CDLI students on Tuesday, October 18th 2022. He will orientate any CDLI students needs.

3) Harvest Run: Please note the Annual Harvest Run will be taking place for cross country athletes next week October 20th 2022. Good luck to our athletes!

4) Jamarama Day: Students can make a small donation during Morning Homeroom and wear their pajamas all day Friday, October 21st 2022. All proceeds will go to support Janeway!

5) CDLI Updates: Please note that there will be no synchronous classes for CDLI students on October 18th, October 19th and October 20th due to teacher professional learning. In advance of these dates, teachers will be communicating with students about any asynchronous learning that students may be engaging in. Classes will resume on Oct 21st. Baccalieu Collegiate students enrolled in CDLI must still attend the CDLI classroom or work out of the Learning Commons (please notify office). CDLI teachers have still assigned work and it is also a perfect chance to catch-up/review on any past work.

6) Senior Boys Basketball: Exhibition games will be held at Baccalieu Collegiate gymnasium against Roncalli and Carbonear this Saturday, October 22nd 2022. Monetary donations will be collected as admission at the door. All proceeds will go towards supporting the BCP Sr. Boys team during play this year.

7) Tutoring for Tuition: Taking applications for the tutoring for tuition program. Please send Mr. Saxby an email if you are interested. Any students interested must send Mr. Saxby before the end of the week October 21st 2022. 

8) Important - Clear History/Cookies (for families): The office at Baccalieu Collegiate has noticed that some parents/guardians/students are completing last year's absent form/sign-out form/sign-in form  This is problematic because our office is only checking the latest 22-23 form. Parents/guardians/students are not doing anything wrong. The problem occurs when your phone/computer accesses browsing history/cookies for speed purposes and bypasses the new 22-23 form for the old one. In order to solve this issue, please clear your device's browser history or clear cookies. 

You will know the problem has been fixed when you go into any of our forms and see in the title 22-23. 

9) Student Leadership Group Halloween/Fall Theme days: -- Flannel day - Wed.October 26th -- Orange, black, purple day/sock day - Thursday, Thurs. Oct 27 -- Zombie day - Friday October 28 -- Costume day Monday October 31

10) Halloween Dance: Student Leadership have organized a Halloween Dance for our students on Thursday, October 27th 2022. Rules for the dance will be sent home in next week's updates. Please be sure to review them with your student.

11) District Wide Shutdown: There will be a District wide school Close out for PL purposes on November 24th 2022.

12) NL LD Association Tutoring: Just in case you didn't know, the NL LD Association offers online tutoring in reading and in math.  The service is subsidized and depending on need can be free.  Please see the link if you have students who would benefit.  You can share with parents or refer. https://www.ldanl.ca/rural-nl-tutoring-support/

13) After School Academic Support: Mr. Holloway will be staying after school to offer extra help for any students on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00pm to 4:00pm.  

14) Assessment Support Calendar: Please do your best to add assessments to our Assessment Support Calendar. This calendar is shared on our www.baccalieucollegiate.ca site for both students and families to see and support their organization. Additionally, give our IRT team a heads up at your earliest convenience so that they can mobilize effectively to support. 

15) Awards Night and Cap and Gown: The date of Monday, December 19th 2022 has been set for our 2021-22 Cap and Gown and Awards Night!

Good News Report (In no particular order)

• Doorways: Doorways was here last week and met with a number of students. Great job! --  Doorways Information and Doorways FAQ
  
• Student Leadership Group: Huge thanks for our SLG for taking time every week to meet, plan, and lead our school!
• Gender Sexuality Alliance: Huge thanks and congrats to our GSA organization for breaking down past prejudices, for standing brave, and for being yourself.
• Staff Meeting: Thank-you teachers for your time for supporting each other and working together. Great initiatives by all staff! Keep up the amazing work and continue to connect with each other and help each other out.
• Autism Symposium: Thank you to both teachers who participated in the Autism Symposium and the teachers who had our back. Thank-you!
• School Council: Great meeting last week. Thank-you to all of our teachers, students, parents/guardians, and community members.
  
• Sports Practices: So many sports and other events going on afterschool. Please check out Baccalieu Calendar for a listing of events and times! Thank-you to all of our students for getting involved and teachers and volunteers for giving up your time for our youth! 
• Senior Girls Volleyball: Big congrats to the girls trying out for our Sr. Girls Volleyball team. Big thanks to our volunteer coaches. Go BCP Go!
• Junior Girls Volleyball: Great work Jr. Girls Volleyball! Thank-you to our volunteer coaches! Go BCP Go!
• Boys basketball: Thanks Coach Cashin and our community volunteers for getting the senior boys basketball team up and going! The banner year begins! 
• Jr. Boys basketball: Thanks Coach Cashin and the community volunteer coaches for supporting our junior boys basketball. 
• Jr. Boys Volleyball: Big thanks to Coach Sheppard for training our boys volleyball!!
• Girls Basketball: Huge thanks to Coach Adams for revitalizing our girls basketball program here at Baccalieu!
• Dungeons and Dragons: Great job to our students for setting some time after school to socialize over a great game of Dungeons and Dragons. If you're interested in joining in let us know!
• Gaming Club: Great job Gaming Club!
