BCP Family Weekly Updates: Monday, October 28th 2024 (DAY 10)

Dear Families,

Congrats to all of our BCP teams out there representing the school and community. Thank-you in advance for taking the time to review updates and important reminders! Any questions or concerns let me know. If I have missed anything please reply-all to this email. 

BCP Weekly Updates Submission Form: A focus at Baccalieu Collegiate in the 2024 school year is to build a strong and connected community. A pillar to building this is effective communication. Volunteer coaches, members of town council, families etc.  are invited to share information, events, and/or good news with our BCP community via BCP Weekly Updates Submission Form. Please complete the form to have your news pertinent to students and families shared on our BCP weekly updates email. 

                                                           Updates and Important Information

1) Baccalieu Collegiate Halloween spirit week: The Baccalieu Collegiate Spirit Week is coming up and with that, fun activities for the week of Halloween. The events are as follows: Monday, wear Halloween clothing, Tuesday, wear Halloween socks, Wednesday, wear flannel designed attire, Thursday, wear your Halloween costume, Friday, wear pjs to school. Participating in these events will earn you and your class Baccalieu Bucks which you can then spend on certain things later on in the year.

2) Field Trip: Wishing our Grade 9 and Entrepreneurship students all the best and learning on field trip to the Geo Centre and Memorial University, St. John's today Monday, October 28th 2024. Thank-you teachers and volunteers for supporting this adventure. 

3) Picture Day: Baccalieu Collegiate picture day! is Tuesday October 29th 2024 

4) Senior Boys Basketball: Senior boys basketball will have regular practice times this week. Tuesday at 6:30pm we ask all parents/guardians to attend a kick-off meeting for the team. Thank-you in advance. 

5) After School Tutoring: Mr. Holloway's after school tutoring will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays after school from 3:00 to 4:00pm. 

6) Junior Boys Basketball: Junior Boys basketball practice is from 3:00pm to 4:30pm followed by a parent meeting is today Monday, October 28th 2024 starting at 4:30pm.

7) Indoor SoccerGirl’s soccer practice on Wednesday will be cancelled. Girl’s indoor soccer and Boy’s indoor soccer practice will be combined on Thursday this week for a scrimmage. It will be from 3-4 pm. Please arrange for pick up at 4pm.

8) Drama PracticeThere is drama practice from 2:45-3:45 on Wednesday. This is the only time we could get the gym this week so we will have practice then. 

9) Cash Lottery Kickoff: We are anticipating the launch of our Baccalieu Collegiate Cash Lottery this Friday, November 1st 2024. We are fundraising for more flexible seating in our classrooms, stage lights, and to support our extracurricular activities. 

10) Close Out: On November 4th 2024 our Family of Schools is shutting down for a professional learning and training day.  NO school for students. 

11) Remembrance Day Assembly: Baccalieu Collegiate will honour Remembrance Day with an assembly open to the public and for students on Friday, November 8th 2024 beginning at 11:00am

12) ALTERShawna Squires band ALTER will be playing a gig on November 22,2024, at Second Stage in St.John’s. This is an all ages venue. performers include ALTER, Mantra, Kicker, Little fauna, Tangerine Machine and headliner Sheavy! More details to come as the show gets closer

13) Sports: Believe it or not, there's more sports and activities happening at Baccalieu! Please see the Baccalieu Events Calendar for up-to-date practice times and tournaments.

14) Reminder -- Absence Form (Family): Child Absent? Complete the form BCP ABSENT FORM without having to call or email the respective homeroom teacher. You can do that too. 

15) Assessment Support Calendar: Please do your best to add assessments to our Assessment Support Calendar. This calendar is shared on our www.baccalieucollegiate.ca site for both students and families to see and support their organization. Additionally, give our IRT team a heads up at your earliest convenience so that they can mobilize effectively to support. 


16) School Allergies: Please be aware that the following foods are prohibited at school due to severe allergies including nuts, fish, shellfish, egg, and pumpkin. 

17) BCP Athletic Shirts and Apparel: Students/Parents/Guardians can now order Baccalieu Predators Athletics shirts through In the Box NL online store. The clothing options include: dri-fit short sleeve, dri-fit long sleeve, crew neck sweatshirt, and hooded sweatshirt all in grey or navy blue. NOTE: For some sports teams you will be asked to order a shirt with a number to be used as a jersey, this will be at the direct instruction of your coach. Do not order a shirt with a number without consulting directly with your coach. BCP Athletic shirts are a quality low cost option for short term sports teams. Good News Report (In no particular order)
  • Senior Girls Volleyball: Congrats to the Baccalieu Collegiate Senior Girls Varsity Volleyball team on winning Gold and bringing home a banner in Division B Tier one at volleyfest this weekend. Hard work and determination certainly paid off with a huge win. 3,2,1 BCP.
  • Grade 9 Girls Volleyball: the junior girls grade 9 volleyball team played great this weekend. They showed good sportsmanship and had lots off fun. They placed 3rd in there first round and played a hard playoff round they lost to the team that went on to win the gold!
  • Grade 8 Girls Volleyball: Congrats Grade 8 girls volleyball for a strong showing at Volleyfest. 
  • Cross country: Congrats Athletes for a strong showing at Harvest Run. 
  • Halloween Dance: Thank-you Leadership for putting off a great Oct. Dance for students!
  • Indoor Soccer: Good luck boys and girls in-door soccer squads!
  • Doorways: Thank-you Doorways for attending Baccalieu Collegiate
  • Baccalieu Collegiate ChoirHuge thanks Ms. Sequeira for getting the choir back at Baccalieu.

4) After School Tutoring: Mr. Holloway's after school tutoring will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays after school from 3:00 to 4:00pm. 

5) Drama Practice: Drama practice Monday, October 21st 2024 from 3-4. Please have rides arranged. 

6)  Junior Boys Basketball: Today's parent/guardian meeting for Junior Boys Basketball will be postponed. The meeting will be pushed to the next practice on Monday, October 28th 2024 starting at 4:30pm.

7) Indoor Soccer: Girl's Indoor Soccer: There will be a meeting at recess time tomorrow (Monday Oct. 21st) in the gym for any girl interested in playing indoor soccer. Boy's Indoor Soccer- There will be a practice on Thursday from 3-4pm. 

8) Cross country: Cross country will take place on Monday from 2:55 to 3:25. Please be reminded that the Harvest run takes place this Wednesday.

9) Halloween Dance: Halloween dance on Thursday, October 24 from 7-9pm . Please ensure students are aware of the BCP Dance Conduct

10) Senior girls volleyball Volley festOn Oct 25 and 26, the senior girls varsity volleyball team will be competing at Volleyfest in St. John’s. Keep an eye on the Senior girls Varsity Volleyball Facebook page to watch and update on the times the girls are playing. Good Luck

11) Softball Update: Due to the low numbers and temperature we will cancel any further softball practices and resume in the Spring.

12) Grade 9 volleyball team: This weekend the grade 9 volleyball team are heading to volley fest friday and saturday 

13) Field Trip: We're happy to announce that our Educational Field Trip to the Geo Centre and MUN Centre for Entrepreneurship is back! This trip will be for Grade 9 and Entrepreneurship students respectively. Families please stay tuned for more information. The trip is scheduled for Monday, October 28th 2024. This trip is made possible by the donation from Greenseafood Ltd.! Thank-you! 

14) Picture Day: Please be advised that Baccalieu Collegiate picture day is Tuesday October 29th 2024 

15) Sports: Believe it or not, there's more sports and activities happening at Baccalieu! Please see the Baccalieu Events Calendar for up-to-date practice times and tournaments.

16) Did you Know, BCP has a Calming Room: Are you a student losing their cool? Are you feeling overwhelmed? Need to hit the reset button?  Use this time to pause, reflect, and self-regulate. Focus on calming your mind and gaining clarity so you can return to class feeling positive, prepared, and ready to actively engage in learning with your peers. 1) No electronic devices are permitted. They should be placed in your bookbag in the office. 2) Sign-in with someone in the office. 3) Respect the contents/furniture of the room. No vandalism will be tolerated.

4) Student Leadership Committee: Congratulations to students who are part of the leadership committee. There will be a very brief meeting to finalize committee roles and begin Halloween spirit planning during recess Tuesday, October 15th 2024 in Room 150. Please ensure all committee members are present. 

5) Cross Country: Cross Country practice this upcoming week will be Tuesday Oct 15 and Thursday Oct 17. Practice will run from 2:55 - 3:25. The Annual Harvest Run will take place on Wednesday, Oct 23.

6) Girls Basketball: BCP Girls 1st basketball practice will take place after school Tuesday, October 15th 2024 from 3:00pm to 4:30pm.  

7) Senior Boys Basketball: Senior Boys Basketball practices will continue this week Tuesday (7:00pm to 9:00pm) and Thursday (4:00pm to 5:30pm)

8) Doorways: Please note that Doorways operates at Baccalieu Collegiate. For more information and/or arrange an appointment time please contact Ms. Doyle. 

9) Indoor Soccer: 1) Girls indoor soccer practice will be going ahead on Wednesday from 3-4pm. 2) Boys indoor soccer practice will be going ahead on Thursday from 3-4pm. 

10) BCP Lighthouse Project Meeting: Lighthouse members should attend the CBC Broadcasting training October 17th 2024 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm. Please try and arrange a ride to and from the Old Perlican Library. Please speak to Mr. Atakorah to let him know you will be attending and for more information. 

11) Softball Practices: Softball Practices will go ahead Mondays and Fridays weather permitting from 3:00-4:30 at the Old Perlican Field. This will start on Friday the 18th of October. All players interested in playing on the co-ed team this year as well as the boys team next year are asked to attend when available.

  • Lighthouse Project: Congratulations Cameron Bursey, Tianna Johnson, Erin Blundon, Phoenix Howell, and Jack Sheppard for capturing another amazing show at Trinity Hall this past Friday, October 11th 2024
  • PL: Big thanks to staff for putting in a great day of work and development this past Friday, October 11th 2024. Thank-you Julie and Amy, our amazing program specialists!
  • Student Leadership Committee: Huge thanks to all students participating in the Leadership Committee this year! Please note, representatives will be identified soon. Stay tuned. 
  • Staff Meeting: Thank-you staff for a productive meeting this past Tuesday. 
  • Baccalieu Collegiate Choir: Huge thanks Ms. Sequeira for getting the choir back at Baccalieu. 
  • BCP Breakfast Program: We would like to give a huge thank-you to Quin Sea Royal Greenland for their donation to our KES BCP Breakfast Program! Thank-you to our volunteers for making this program happen! 
  • Junior Boys Basketball: Congrats junior boys on your first practice last week. Thank-you to the coaching staff Andrew Barnes, Gavin Clarke, and Nathan Froggatt. 
  • Senior Boys Basketball: Congrats to the 16 Senior High boys who made the Baccalieu Collegiate Predators Senior Boys Basketball team! Initial team roles will be discussed with players this week. 
  • School Forms: Thank-you to our families for completing the necessary forms for students through the Rycor forms portal! Greatly appreciated. If you have not done so already, please do as soon as possible. 
  • Thanksgiving Holiday: We hope our families all enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday. We are very thankful for our community, support, and perseverance.

5) M Team Member: Welcome Ms. Sequeira to the M-Team. Ms. Sequeira is leading teacher for CDLI courses. Please see Ms. Sequeira for any/all CDLI needs. 

6) Senior Boys Basketball: Senior Boys Basketball Training/Tryout will continue this week Tuesday (7:00pm to 9:00pm) and Thursday (4:00pm to 5:30pm). The team is expected to be named this week.

Please note there will be a meeting for all Committee members early this week. A meeting for representatives will follow later in the week or early next week. 

11) BCP Lighthouse Project Meeting: Thank-you students who joined the LH project. Mr. Atakorah will continue to connect, develop space, and provide training. Please mark on your calendar CBC Broadcasting training October 17th 2024 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm. Please try and arrange a ride to and from the Old Perlican Library. Also, any members interested in covering the Scilly Cove Records Showcase at Trinity Hall on Friday October 11th 2024 please see Mr. Saxby. 

12) BCP Close out Day: Please note that Baccalieu Collegiate has tentatively scheduled Closeout PL Day on Friday, October 11th 2024

13) Thanksgiving Holiday: Please note BCP will observe the Thanksgiving holiday on Monday, October 14th 2024.

16) Reminder -- Absence Form (Family): Child Absent? Complete the form BCP ABSENT FORM without having to call or email the respective homeroom teacher. You can do that too. 

17) Assessment Support Calendar: Please do your best to add assessments to our Assessment Support Calendar. This calendar is shared on our www.baccalieucollegiate.ca site for both students and families to see and support their organization. Additionally, give our IRT team a heads up at your earliest convenience so that they can mobilize effectively to support. 


18) School Allergies: Please be aware that the following foods are prohibited at school due to severe allergies including nuts, fish, shellfish, egg, and pumpkin. 

19) BCP Athletic Shirts and Apparel: Students/Parents/Guardians can now order Baccalieu Predators Athletics shirts through In the Box NL online store. The clothing options include: dri-fit short sleeve, dri-fit long sleeve, crew neck sweatshirt, and hooded sweatshirt all in grey or navy blue. NOTE: For some sports teams you will be asked to order a shirt with a number to be used as a jersey, this will be at the direct instruction of your coach. Do not order a shirt with a number without consulting directly with your coach. BCP Athletic shirts are a quality low cost option for short term sports teams. Good News Report (In no particular order)
  • BCP Breakfast Program: We would like to give a huge thank-you to Quin Sea Royal Greenland for their donation to our KES BCP Breakfast Program!
  • Regional Cross Country Running: Congratulations to all Cross Country runners who took part in today’s regional run! Jr. Boys and Sr. Girls had an excellent performance. Congratulations to Jackson March on winning first place in Sr. Boys and Lucas Whalen on winning 3rd place Sr. High Boys. A huge congratulations to our Sr. Boys team on winning first place and bringing home the Regional banner! Great performance by all!
  • School Forms: Thank-you to our families for completing the necessary forms for students through the Rycor forms portal! Greatly appreciated. If you have not done so already, please do as soon as possible. 
  •  Occupational Health and Safety Meeting: Big thanks to our OHS Committee for their meeting last week.
  • BCP Student Leadership Council & Representatives Group: Thank-you to all the students interested in leading the student charge at Baccalieu! Stay tuned for our first meeting. 
  • Lighthouse Project: Thank-you to everyone who showed up to the past Lighthouse meeting. Lots of training and fun coming the Lighthouse way! 
  • CDLI Meeting the Teacher Night: Huge thank-you to our CDLI teachers who took the time to meet families this past week during Meet and Greet! 
  • Badminton Interest: Thank-you Ms. Oliver for giving students the opportunity to compete at a high level in badminton! Ms. Oliver would like to start a Badminton Club after school at the John Hoskins Community Center in the near future. If there are any adults that would like to help build Badminton in the area please email Ms. Oliver at nancyoliver@nlschools.ca 
  • Girls Volleyball: Thank-you to our Girl's Volleyball Volunteer coaches for beginning their respective seasons and providing opportunity for youth involvement and growth of sport.
