Baccalieu Collegiate Washroom Policy Updates - Family & Community Letter

Dear Families and Community Members,

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting the safety, well-being, and development of all students at Baccalieu Collegiate. Following valuable feedback from our recent Student Washroom Use & School Climate Survey, and in collaboration with a student advisory committee, we are implementing a series of proactive measures to enhance washroom safety, cleanliness, and accessibility.

Key Changes Being Introduced:

  1. Addressing Vaping and Misuse

    • Increased supervision during high-traffic periods.

    • Change in early morning school access - prior to teacher supervision times.

    • Increased consequences for misuse: Suspensions, Restrictions, and extracurricular restrictions.

  2. Junior/Senior Washroom Designation

    • Upstairs washroom for junior high students.

    • Downstairs washroom for senior high students.

    • Office washroom available for overflow during lunch.

  3. Improved Cleanliness & Supplies

    • More frequent cleaning and restocking.

    • Repairs and upgrades: hand dryers, paper towels, privacy dividers.

    • Launch of a student-led cleanliness initiative.

  4. Structured Washroom Usage Protocols

    • 3-student occupancy limit in public washrooms.

    • Teacher supervision during breaks.

    • Private washroom access via office sign-out.

  5. Washroom Culture Campaign

    • Student-led campaign promoting respect, cleanliness, and accountability.

    • Signage, assemblies, infographics, and QR code for anonymous reporting.

  1. Supportive Wellness Alternatives

    • Promotion of the Calming Room as an alternative to washroom use for regulation.

    • Improved access and updated procedures for wellness spaces.

We are proud of the student leadership and collaboration involved in this process. We invite you to review the Full Policy Document [CLICK HERE] and welcome your feedback at our upcoming School Council meeting. Together, we are building a safer and more respectful school environment.
