BCP Weekly Updates: Monday, December 1st, 2025 (DAY 5)

 

Dear Families,

Thanks for staying connected with what’s happening at Baccalieu Collegiate. Here are this week’s updates and reminders.  Please reach out anytime if we can help.

Updates and Important Information

  1. Report Card/Parent-Teacher Conferences
    This Wednesday, December 3, students will receive their report cards for the 1st term.  On Thursday, December 4, students will have a half-day (a.m.), and there will be parent-teacher conferences from 1-5 p.m.  The conferences will take place in the school's gym.  

  2. Christmas Lottery Kick-off!
    Baccalieu Collegiate officially launched our annual Christmas Lottery fundraiser! Tickets are $5 each, with prizes of $5,000 for first place$500 for second, and $50 for third. Proceeds will help support new seating in our learning commonsadditional computers and technology, and upgrades to our data systems.  The draw date is fast approaching, and this is a great opportunity to have $5000 for Christmas.

  3. Junior Girls Volleyball Champs
    Congratulations to our Junior Girls Volleyball Team on winning GOLD at our home tournament this past weekend! The team showed incredible effort and sportsmanship throughout the day. A huge thank-you to our volunteers, coaches, and community partners whose support made the event possible. We’re grateful for the schools, sponsors, and people who contributed equipment, space, and services to ensure a smooth and successful tournament. Great work by everyone involved!

  4. Senior Girls Provincial Volleyball Finalists
    Congratulations to our Senior Girls Volleyball Team on an outstanding weekend in Deer Lake! The girls played with great effort and determination, making it all the way to the finals and proudly earning the Sportsmanship Banner. Thank you to the coaches, families, and supporters who helped make the weekend possible. Excellent work, everyone!

  5. Tutoring for Tuition
    Tutoring for Tuition is now available. If you feel your child would benefit from extra academic support, please reach out to Mrs. Reid or Mrs. Slade to get started. We’re happy to help students build confidence and strengthen their learning.

  6. SSNL Tournament Guideline
    SSNL has a policy that does not permit anyone (including coaches, teacher-sponsors, or athletes) to smoke or vape on site, and they've outlined that any breaches may result in a written report or disciplinary action. We just want to make sure everyone is aware of these guidelines so our teams and school are never put in a difficult position. Thank you for your continued support and for helping us follow SSNL’s procedures.

  7. Drama Practices
    Drama practice will continue until Christmas for senior students from 3-4 on Mondays and for juniors from 3-4 on Tuesdays.  Scripts cost $25.00. Please pass along your money at your next practice and pick up your scripts. 

  8. Victor Badminton Tournament
    Baccalieu Collegiate will be hosting the Victor Badminton NL Baccalieu Trail Junior-Senior Open 2025 on Saturday at the school. We’d love to see our school community come out, show some spirit, and cheer on our athletes!

  9. Christmas Talent Show
    Baccalieu Collegiate is excited to introduce our very first Christmas Talent Show. If you have a talent you would like to share, then there is a sign-up sheet at the office. Our Christmas Talent Show will tentatively take place on Tuesday, December 17, at 7pm. It will be a new and wonderful way to kick off the holidays. Come out and share in the Christmas spirit with your children as they take to the stage to show off their talent to create some Christmas cheer!

  10. Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Program
    We are looking for additional volunteers for our KES Breakfast Program.  Anyone interested, please contact Ms. LeShane at marleneleshane@nlschools.ca.

  11. Picture Retake Day
    Lifetouch will return to take picture retakes on Wednesday, December 10th.

  12. Star Creations - BCP Apparel
    Show your Baccalieu pride with school clothing/gear from Star Creations! Order online through the link on our school website under BCP Merchandise.  

  13. 295 Baccalieu Sea Cadets
    The 295 Baccalieu Sea Cadets would love to welcome new members! Cadets meet every Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the school. It’s a great opportunity for youth to build skills, make friends, and get involved in their community.

  14. Code of Conduct
    This year, we have introduced an updated Code of Conduct.  Please make sure you review this with your child(ren): Code of Conduct

  15. Absence / Sign-In / Sign-Out (Family)
    Attendance is critical for academic and social success, as it ensures that students are actively engaged and able to fully benefit from the educational opportunities we provide. Please make sure that you sign your child in and out when arriving late or leaving early.

  16. Extra Curricular Schedule
    Baccalieu Collegiate offers extracurricular activities, including sports, drama, tutoring/study hall, DND, and more!  Please check our Calendar and our Facebook page for schedules.

  17. Rycor Forms
    If you haven't already done so, please fill out Forms through Rycor for your child(ren). The easiest way to access Rycor is on a desktop device, through your PowerSchool login.  If you have any issues accessing your PowerSchool, please contact the office for support.

  18. School Allergies
    Please be aware that certain foods are prohibited at school due to severe allergies. We have students who may require an EpiPen if exposed to the listed allergens.

  19. Personal Electronic Device Policy
    As per NLSchool's policy, cell phones and other similar personal devices are not to be seen during class unless permitted by the teacher for learning purposes.

  20. Cannabis and Smoke Free Policy
    Please note Baccalieu Collegiate and the District support a Tobacco, Cannabis, Smoke and Smokeless Free Policy. This policy also prohibits clothing that promotes these products. District Policy Document

  21. Dirtbikes & ATVs
    We’ve received several concerns from community members about students driving dirt bikes and ATVs recklessly. We ask parents/guardians to take time to speak with your child(ren) about the importance of road safety and the responsible use of these machines. Safe operation protects not only our students but also everyone in the community. This is not only a safety concern, but a legal one as well.

  22. Doorways
    Doorways School Counselling Program is returning to Baccalieu Collegiate. They have increased their visits to be weekly. Please see their letter, which discusses the consent to treatment for counsellors. School DoorWays Program Letter

  2. Report Card/PL Day - Submit any Missing Work
    This Friday, there will be no school for students as teachers will be doing PL and working on report cards.  If your child(ren) is missing any work, it must be submitted by Wednesday, as teachers need time to assess and upgrade PowerSchool accordingly.

  18. Required Course for Athletes
    The Provincial Government is partnering with School Sports NL to launch the Safe Sport in Education course for NLSchools student athletes in grades 7-12.

    All NLSchools student-athletes will be required to complete the Safe Sport in Education course and submit their course completion certificate, along with a signed NLSchools and School Sports NL Athletic Contract, to participate in team activities. The course will be available through the Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation. To complete the course: go to the following link > click "Sign Up" > type in your email > go to your email and click on the link > fill out your information > click on the link to go to BrightSpace > register for the course. Updates and Important Information

  1. Christmas Lottery Kick-off!
    Baccalieu Collegiate officially launched our annual Christmas Lottery fundraiser! Tickets are $5 each, with prizes of $5,000 for first place, $500 for second, and $50 for third. Proceeds will help support new seating in our learning commons, additional computers and technology, and upgrades to our data systems.

    A big congratulations to Jersey Hogan, who won the draw prize of a $25 gift card for students who returned full ticket booklets during the first week of sales!


  2. Senior Girls Volleyball - Champs!
    Congrats to the Senior Girls Varsity Volleyball team on competing and winning the 3A Regional Qualifier that was held at Baccalieu Collegiate this past weekend! The girls played awesome volleyball and the competition was tough but they went undefeated to a three-part in the regional qualifier. They showed their Baccalieu spirit and pride on there way to the championship. They had awesome support all day from the students, parents and public. Next is the Provincials being held at Elwood Academy in Deer lake in two weeks. Let’s go! 3,2,1 BCP. #RIDETHEWAVE

  3. Senior Boys Basketball - Exhibition Games
    Great work and effort from our Senior Boys’ Basketball team, who competed at Carbonear Collegiate in exhibition games this past week!

  4. Girls Basketball Team 
    Great work by our Girls’ Basketball team in their game this past week! The team showed excellent effort and sportsmanship—well done, girls!
